It seems the older people tend to use the forums and the young'uns use Discord. The forums feel like a ghost town compared to what they were 10 years ago when I joined.
I have been on the Internet from the beginning of the Internet when the Internet became available in the early 1990s. What I have noticed Online and in Society in general is that most people seem to acclimate to the prevailing culture. It has been my experience, granted, limited experience, and limited due to how others communicate on Discord, but generally, Discord has been where the least public civility and platform responsibility seems to be observed. For these two reasons, I rarely waste my time on Discord.
It would seem that with the number of "professional" entities that use Discord for their Forum activities rather than creating and taking responsibility for such endeavors themselves, that there would be more pressure on Discord to "police" itself, but that does not seem to be the situation.
But then, I was raised in an era when civility and cordiality actually meant something. Listen to conversations and read common written communication styles in the 21st Century and one might wonder if there are such standards at all these days.
Not to mention spelling (in an actual and recognized and traditional Language), grammar, paragraphs, sentence structure (run-on sentences are a pet-peeve), punctuation, and capitalization. Yes, I have OCD, as well as other maladies. Life and three-quarters of a century take their toll.
It is beyond sad reading about those up to half my age and more not getting a chance to enjoy a full and productive life.
Life is beautiful. Life is precious. Life is a gift.
Happy New Year. Cherish every moment.
