Totally cheesed off with Trainz

grazlash

Route Builder
After having a long break from the game to improve my mental health, playing only a couple of times a month over the last 6 months (yes, it's been that long) I decided that it was time to get back in to building again. Building routes and running trains over recently built sections and screenshotting is how I derive enjoyment from the game. At the moment Trainz is far from enjoyable.
I noticed about a month ago that the Trainz Gallery is no longer working for me, no matter which browser I use to upload nothing appears in the Gallery. It seems that other people are able to upload their screenshots, but no matter what I do nothing works.
I ticketed the helpdesk the last time this happened and it was repaired, but having read several posts on the subject, it seems N3V have given up on the Trainz Gallery and have little time for the forums either.
The last answer I got was that all immediate support is done on that CESSPIT known as Discord, which I refuse to use because of the foul language and poor taste posts. It seems there is no Code of Conduct associated with the wild west of Discord.
All this is leading to frustration and the desire for a more permanent break from the game, though I am loathe to do that with the NSW Main West unfinished.
My 2 bobs worth, thank you, rant over.
cheers
Graeme

A timely post. I find myself in the same space. I have a current ticket open because I am also unable to upload to the gallery. Searching has been broken for some time, and reaching out to the Helpdesk gets one nowhere. Community screen shots are no longer included inthe the "Newsletter". The gallery and forums are a core part of my development and sharing process, and a way for community members to support each other.

I don't want to diss on all NV3 staff, as one or two have in the past been most helpful. But the NV3 team in general seem to have lost contact with the original sharing Trainz spirit. NV3 developers seem to be off playing in their new sand pit. After 24 years I too am considering whether there is a future for me in Trainz.

With regards sharing screenshots via a thirdy party site.. thats what we did in the early days of Trainz, before the feature was built in, and sold as part of one the early upgrades.

Sorry about the repeated edits.. and I suspect my rant is NOT over.

So the leading reason you are taking a break from Trainz is that some picture hosting service doesn't work?
So nothing Trains or game play related

Really?
There are other reasons also, as Forester1 says. But posting images of our work is a part of the game play for some (many?) of us.

Really.

The Trainz built-in image posting and sharing feature used to be seamless and fun. It was (is) a convenient improvement on what went before (manually posting to a hosting service). I understand that it may not be as important to you.

I disagree with that statement. The N3V Trainz Discord server does have a CoC and is moderated closely. I spend much of my day doing exactly that. There is a language bot that catches most swearing and occasionally we get a spammer but that is soon dealt with. There are other Trainz related servers and I won't speak for them.

As for the image hosting service, I've mostly given up. I did use Imgur for a while until it descended into a collection of cute cat/dog videos, poor taste cartoons, and sleaze.

the biggest issue I have with imgur is they made it far harder to add images without posting them on their platform, which as you say is pretty trite. All I want is somewhere to store images. it is possible to revert to their older page displays but its still a pain in the butt uploading, compared to the old format. the biggest hassle with third party storage sites is when they change their terms of service like photobucket did, I had masses of images there but when they wanted me to pay for them, I let it go and now all there is are blank spaces where the images used to be.

Imgur is also blocked in the UK, and if you use it here, you'll get UK members complaining that you're using it.

After Imgur's stupid website re-design, I eventually figured out how to upload images to it and access them without reverting to the old page format. I just had to go through the Settings menu for the required "Images" option to appear in the menu drop-down. However, since Imgur is now blocked in the UK, I will need to find another host. I don't want to support anything based in the US, UK, Russia or China - any suggestions?

I was thinking about the one Dave mentioned above in post #8.

postimages.org is American. They're probably OK, but at the risk of getting political, I'd rather just avoid American businesses. To avoid dragging this thread further off-topic, I'll research image hosting sites elsewhere.

You might think that a site is not moderated, but try making political posts or colorful language and you will face the wrath of a moderator. They really do enforce the rules. Just like how police enforce the law. Police tend to catch you off guard. That's for the US, US police (state, local) are tough and don't play around.

wasn't aware of that , or the reason why they blocked themselves. I will not patronize a site that has decided its above UK social media rules, so will have to find another host. Or just stop posting images altogether as its getting such a pain to find anything that remains stable and reliable. I find it very time consuming anyway and this is just another complication.

When the Trainz Gallery has been an integral part of my enjoyment of the game, it's a reason I am becoming dissatisfied with Trainz. I have been taking a break to improve my mental health, as I was spending excessive amounts of time route building, at the expense of other things in life.
