Total Noob.. please help..

Not on a mac I'm afraid... this is VERY frustrating. No tick box under surveyor or video settings :(

You got the problem spot on with the working fine, and your computer is downloading things fine, but the part where the downloaded items are to actually be installed into trainz isn't working... now all we need is a fix!

well, ive heard that TS Mac is the equivalent of TS12. so make sure the stuff you downloaded is even for TS12 first. if its not then it wont work unless you have that compatability thing checked.

and I'll take a screenie of the options.

First of all, to not confuse anything, if the Mac version is equal ts12 you don't have compatebility mode. The last version to have that was ts2010.

Second, if you use the downloads offered in the trainz game itself, those are updates for buildin- and other content you've downloaded via the CMP.
Those won't show up as new assets since the game uses the newest versions available on your system hiding the previous, now obsolete ones.
One of the reasons for updates, certainly of content downloaded via the CMP from the DLS, is to make those assets comply with the specs for the newer trainz versions. So don't worry about things you download this way, these should be fine.

Thanks Jan, but I'm only downloading totally new content to my game, not patches and that is where my issue lies. As I'm running TS12, does that mean I can run downloads from earlier versions of Trainz or not? Because that may be my problem...

In principle everything you download from the DLS can be made to run in ts12, but due to changes in configuration specs over the years it sometimes is nescessairy to 'repair' items. Since you are new to this its advisable to have a look at the buildnumber of the asset you want to download. For scenery 2.7 or higher should be without errors. For routes 2.9 or higher should work. Note however that dependencies used could be much older and therefore faulty.
Another indicator is a little blue dot in the most left asset type icon in the CMP, those are certified for ts2009 and higher.

One last effort in the not showing up of downloaded items. In the CMP have a look at the tab Faulty. Assets that have errors (red exclamation mark) will not show up in the game either.

we can go one by one, like copy and paste the KUIDs for the faulty assets and people on here can find it for you. or just copy and paste into google

Brilliant, thats a great help! Is there any way I can fix these faulty/error items or can I just not use them?
Exceptions aside most errors are due to wrong or changed tags in the config.txt file that's part of every asset.
If you feel adventurous you should have a look at this thread, allthough written for ts2010, most will be applyable to ts12 as well.

You may get better answers in the Mac Forum, maybe you should be asking there. Which by the way is in the Maintenance of Way Support section of this site.

Hi JamesGoldsmith,

overkill650 has let me know about this thread, so I will see if I can help.

(Bear with me though, as I know that TS Mac is different from the versions I normally use)

From what I've read, the game is built on the TS12 game engine (with some changes), but uses the content base from TS2010. This means that as long as the content is for versions between Trainz Classics 1 and TS2009 SP4/TS2010, it should work. If it comes up Faulty though in the Mac content Manager, then it will need fixing. The way of doing this on a Mac is trickier than on a PC, due to the different application methods.

It may be worth, as others have suggested, trying the following:

1.Do a search in Content Manager for Open for Edit items. If there are any listed, these will need to be committed. This option is usually available by right-clicking.

2.On the Routes page, there is a gold star (if it has not been already turned off) at the top left of the page. If it is still showing as gold, click it to turn off the favourites feature.

3.In Content Manager, do a search for Faulty items. Any items that appear here will need to be modified, or you can see if there is any updates for it by right-clicking it and clicking Download.
