To all beginner modelers

Greetings,

To all of you who have decided to learn modeling with either gmax, Blender, or any other program, consult the Wiki books available online. With a bit of effort, you can also find books available on line that cover the subject. Some book stores and Amazon.com are also a good way to find such books.

I know, books cost money but they last a long time!

I have several books, both about gmax and Blender, always on the bookshelf, ready to answer questions.

Just an idea.

Hi John,

I am not even close the modeler you are and probably never will be but the technique that I use for my shiny brass is contained in the attached article. It is not the simplest but it works and give me the "illusion" that I look for in my brass bells and hand rails.

That's because it's not implemented yet. There are a couple of blend files on the page, maybe try those?

They look fine in Blender but give errors on the exporter, nothing major just two sided and such things.

My background is not in 3D modeling and sometimes I think the jargon is a problem.

In some ways I just want a brass coloured metal cube to play with rather than have to understand what's happening.

If you notice most of what I have on the DLS is actually reskins. The models I make are normally fairly simple, there is just quite a few of them often one basic one with variations.

Where do you host your models by the way?

Hi John,

Actually, I'm too embarrassed to post my stuff. I have tried many times and have never gotten them to the point where I am happy with them. If you want to skype me or PM me, I could show some of my stuff but I haven't done anything with them really since the last bout of chemo. Once I get a permanent place to live (just relocated to Victoria) I will be working on them again. Right now I am concentrating on learning Blender and while I have found a lot of "work arounds" I am a long way from being comfortable enough with it to switch over entirely. Still using 3dsMax and even Gmax for most of personal assets. My goal is to move entirely to Blender so I can kiss Microsoft goodbye on my development box.
