Time of the month for TS12 SP1

G'day Shane, I held off updating as I saw that there were some having issues with the update and things with this version of TS12 are that problematic in respect to all this checking that I did not want to make matters worse.

Makes sense. I'm still inclined to think it may be related to the update being released though, as it still appears in Content Manager and it normally still has to check all of it's dependencies (and sub dependencies).

G'day Shane, Ok I installed the three packages and they downloaded and installed with on errors or warnings, I shut down trainz and left it fir a while then restarted and you guessed it, validation over 7600 to validate. Surly this is unnecessary, so now I wait fir this to finish as I know all to well that trainz will run like a slide show while this is going on. surly the validation could have been done as part of the installation?
When this validation finishes I will run the route and see if it was worth while as I had no problems with the previous install, as always the proof of the pudding is in the eating so lets see if there are any visual and performance improvements, if not I will be very disappointed.

Barrie

G'day, well what a waste of time that was, 7600 assets and 2hrs 40 minutes to do the verification, of what I don't know as the routes and sessions combined have less than 3000 assets so what was it verifying???
I went into the route and played the loco sight seeing tour, did not seem to be any visual or performance improvement but check out the screen shot, this was not a problem before??

So much for that, nothing improved and invisi running gear, I wonder what else is now broken that was not before. This was a total waste of time and bandwidth as I had on problems with this before and have gained nothing. Looks like another epic fail.

DRM , this is what I've sussed :
I was getting regular asset checks of between 15,000 and 19,000 objects , This was taking upwards of 7 hours to complete .
I could make alterations to content in CMP , I could download content as well , But every time I did this it would add another couple of hundred or sometimes even a 1000+ items on to the list of assets that need to be checked !!
I have also witnessed on a regular basis that the list whittles down to a few hundred and then suddenly adds on another couple of thousand without me doing anything in CMP !!
Whilst these checks are running it's no good attempting to run the main program , It will eventually run after starring at the loco for many minutes but any attempt to start up a route results in a blank screen up until the asset check has finished .

I have since worked out what my problem is : I have installed as DRM , S&C , Duchess , Coronation and Pro Train Perfect2 .

It's Pro train perfect2 that adding on the huge amount of extra files that are checked on a regular basis . (For those that don't know , Pro Train Perfect 2 is a German content only version of Trainz 2010 with custom German routes and content) . I had a major problem in that TS12 plus service pack 1 wouldn't accept my Serial number even though its a legitimate purchase and it had worked in TS12 pre sp1 . N3V has since added the ability to use this add-on with 12 but now it comes at a cost of a 7 hour asset check :(

This info then brings up the possibility that a similar situation may be happening to those who have installed the 2010 .ja files into TS12 , Unless someone can advise that it doesn't .

In my situation I have after a suggestion from Fudginator split up my content collection into 2 installations of TS12 . Install 1 has all my original Europe and rest of world content including the DRM plus Pro train perfect 2 , My new second install contains only UK and Ireland content plus DRM but no Pro train perfect 2 .

I've not experienced how long the first install takes with an asset check as I've not really run it much since the split , But the second install now takes just over an hour to run the check . It's still 60 minutes too long in my book but I can always find something else to do for an hour . Though it always seems to happen when I'm pushed for time or whilst I'm trying to check new or repaired content in the sim .

Forgive me for asking Dave, but, isn't ProTrainPerfect a DVD, I only thought this DRM business was for content purchased directly through Simulator Central's website?

It is a DVD but as I've said TS12 refused to accept the Serial number after one of the updates was installed even though PTP2 was already installed and working (The routes and content are marked up as built-in).
It took quite a few messages to N3V before it worked again and I had a lot of routes and content broken because of those missing files .

Your Probably right and I'm barking up the wrong tree but that's the only thing I can see different between the 2 installs .
They both have well over 300,000 separate items in them , So why would one only need 1000+ items checked whereas the other with PTP2 installed keeps toping nearly 20,000 ?

Just updated Murchison2, a fraction over I hour to download and install, no errors, validation of 6000 odd items 1 hour 30 minutes, that's on a conventional Sata3 7200rpm Drive. About the same as when I originally installed it.

Same issue as per Barrie's screenshot with the missing bogies. Hmmm......
Alpha issues with the trees still there as well, was kind of hoping.

After the update to Murchison downloaded Trainz went through a validation. I subsequently did an EDR to make sure everything was installed correctly and after closing CM, waiting for taddeamon to close, I reopened CM to be greeted with a validation of the assets. What was the point after an EDR!

As well as the bogies which are now missing the following assets do not show when placed on the track apart from the two close consist arrows.

VR ELX Gondola Empty,<kuid2:1854:6057:2>
D&C Speeder #10,<kuid2:86661:10:1>

No Squire, you may be right as well, I also have a PTP DVD that I'm loathe to install onto my TS12 for the very same reasons that you appear to have had problems with, so, thank you for the info.

I don't (as far as I know!) have PTP on my version. I do have the same problems that Dave pointed out. I noticed the adding items to verify just the other day! I also tried the suggestion by Norfolksouthern37:

I use CMP often and I had checked "Automatically commit assets" in the settings. This means that each time I used CMP it would commit the engine specs again. This caused all of the dependent items to queue up a validation.

And things do seem to be a bit better now!

BTW, I do have all the "official" route DLC and most train DLC installed as well (and TC 1+2 ).
