Throttle adjustment

When driving with the simple controls, is it possible to rotate the throttle just a degree at a time? I seem to never be able to just slightly rotate it.

I just have a little circle dial....I don't remember even seeing any dots.......and this is on a 24" monitor. I will look though.

To get fine adjustment to adjust the throttle by 1% increments, click and drag your mouse away from the dial.

Some more info: I use the very basic controls: everything is in the right lower corner. There is a round dial for speed. There are a few icons for lights, ditch lights, sander, etc. I use no AI. I make this kinda like what I had as a kid 40+ years ago. I just want to see trains running. To that end, I make one very long track......in this case it is 120 miles long. I have a large yard for that track where I pull out and run 8 trains on the same track, all at the same time. Besides the main track, there are about 10 other tracks (much smaller) with one train each on them.

What I am trying to do is to get the 8 trains that are all on the main track, spread out and running at or near the same speed. I realize that I will have to make adjustments to keep them running into each other, but that is OK and part of the entertainment for me. However, it would be much easier if I could get them all going at about the same speed to begin with. But, the round dial is extremely hard to lower or raise by 1%. I am looking to see if there is another way of adjusting that dial without trying to turn it (which results in huge increases instead of the desired 1 or 2%.

You and I were both typing at the same speed, Tony. I will try your suggestion in the AM after a good night's sleep! Thanks!

That worked! I spent a couple of hours yesterday trying to find that answer on WIKI and anywhere else that I could think of and found absolutely nothing.

Thanks again, Tony!

While dragging your mouse away works, it still takes a steady hand to move the dial in 1% increments.

It would be nice if we could adjust this, or even if the first 10% went in 1% increments. I can't begin to tell you how many times I'm shunting cars around in a yard and wanting to only move the dial 1 or 2 % at a time.

Maybe something for the future ;)

Yes....it is a little tough to work, but it is infinitely easier than the way I had been doing it! I agree though.....would be nice to see something a little easier.

I absolutely agree with this problem. To make it work like the Rotational control for an object would be just great. Rough rotation using the mouse, then hold down the CTL key to rotate it with finer detail. Pulling away from the throttle control isn't as easy as it sounds.

Mousewheel control would be great for this...

a big problem of using the mouse to move it, is the control jumps to the position of the mouse when you click on it.

Exactly! This is very annoying. You're cruising along and want to boost the power a tiny bit. You hover the mouse as close as you can to the tiny little pointer and click. The wheel zips forward or back and your engine stumbles. A hot key and mouse wheel would work wonders. Even keeping close to, but not over, the sped limit is highly difficult using the present method.

Click on the outside edge at the end of the green line (since the closer you click to the center, the more likely you are to adjust things accidentally).

It's not perfect and your feedback has been noted. We'll take a look when we get back onto driver UI issues.

Of course, there is another option and that's use the "proper" controls not the "easy" option. Then you get to use 8 notches and brakes and it gets much harder. :)

I'd say the issues you are seeing with the "knob" are just like real life... When you turn the transformer knob on a model RR layout you never know what's going to happen as track gets dirty, engine wheelsets get dirty, there's voltage loss in track, etc. So a bit a randomness, jerkiness, and inconsistancy in game is a good representaion of real world train transformer DC operation. Well, that's one way of looking at it..:D

I use W and X they are forward and backwards, do it in 5 units. 5, 10, 15 etc. You can use them but they go by 5s. So you can use your mouse and click close to what they did, as some do not do actually enough, so you budge a little to what you really want it to be. RJ Artim

Well, actually ...

I've gotten Very Good at coupling Kadees without moving the parked car/cars. And that's even right handed while I'm left handed.

And yes, it is a huge disappointment with Trainz that the action cannot be electronically replicated.
Especially so since using small locomotives to shuffle cars around between yards and industries is a big part of what I like to do.

Now, true, full disclosure, I have been practicing since the 1980s ...
(the one pictured is not the original 1980s powerpack by MRC, it dates from around the TOC, and is likewise by MRC)

❗⬇️ I want Trainz to be able to fulfill that need/desire/experience;
