re- thornaby sheds

thanks a lot for these links this will get me started on this project are you this neck of the woods by half a chance as your choice was spot-on. i am very interested in the period of transition of steam to diesel and my family have strong railway connections thanks again

Am in USA, PA, but my paternal family is from Manchester (other side of the mts LOL) but some of my family are in Yorks and Peterborough (the same side of the Pennines)

The Holbeck Roundhouse I believe is still standing (or was till recent times)

"Redstripe" if you pop into the local library they"ll have a selection of Ordnance Survey large scale maps.I"m modelling the Sunderland area and Sunderland Library has 25 inch to the mile maps which I have photocopied. The track layouts are very accurate and if you measure them in millimetres the multiply that by 8.3 it gives you the measurement in feet to a tolerance of 4 feet.

thanks for your input lads, this will help me a great deal managed to find some aerial photos on a stockton council website as well, every little helps best wishes on all your future projects. Nice to know there is help out there regards redstripe3

What time period are you modelling?
If its the present day, try here Planning Portal.
Just zoom in to the area you're interested in. It will give you the current trackplan...
Also try herehttp://maps.live.com/. Agian just zoom in to the area. Check out the "Bird's Eye View" as well. I've just had a look, the old turntable area was being used for wheel staorage when the photos were taken, several 56s in Transrail & Loadhaul colours...

You could also try the Quail Trackmaps book 2. This will give you up to date track plans for Thornaby and the whole of the Eastern region from London to Norwich and London to Berwick including all the branches.

There wouldn"t be much point in modelling the present day because the Roundhouse has been demolished and I believe EWS have closed their depot. There"d be plenty of scope for using JVC Vegetation though...:(

Hi Guys, I remember the roundhouse when i was a kid, I found some track plans of the sheds on google earth they are quite detailed for aerial shots which have been very helpful. The period i was after modelling was around late sixties, early seventies steam to diesel transition on british railways love both, once again guys your input has been invaluable and am pleased to be part of the community thank-you very much.
