As far as I'm concerned, Microsoft should have stopped with XP. I've had nothing but trouble with 7, 8 & and forget 10. Biggest waste of pixels since Eniac. So, here's what I'm going to do.
Get my XP fixed. I'm going to stick with what works. I designed and bought the parts for it and had a guy in Rocklin build it for me and up to now it's been an excellent computer. I'm not going to give up on it. So, I'm going to go back into my favorite black hole for a while, but in the words of the terminator, "I'll be back". :D

I wish you good luck too, as I have had my Issues since Win 1.0, yes I started before there was windows, DOS 2.0 with 1/4 Meg of Memory, 10 Meg Hard Drive, AKA 286SX my first new computer..

Funniest think I ever heard when I complained to a Tech about how slow my Computer would get with supposedly fast windows, is when he told me, "Well you know your computer isn't really 32 bits, the way they programmed the operating sys, it's only using 1/2 the computer" I said you got to be kidding me, and the Tech said, I'm really sorry, but the software is pushed out so quick, not properly tested, it is what it is.

I've had terrible times with Millennium and other versions of Win over the years, so I would say this to you, if it's not broken, then heck no don't try and fix, enjoy it as long as you can, and last thing, tell them don't laugh it's paid for!

And I should close saying I know a programmer that still uses XP on some of his machines because his programs run 100% efficient and he is dreading the day he will have to reprogram all his Programs he has made over the years to run with 64 Bit Win....So you are not alone.

This gentleman is a brilliant programmer, still uses Machine Language (I meant he programs in Assembly) for lots of his programs, and what he see out there in Software World just bums him out in the inadequate way they are produced these days.

When you upgrade get a new 64 bit OS laptop PC for $2700, or a desktop for $1000 ... an old PC will surely have many performance bottlenecks, and can not be retrofitted

Every new version of an OS brings out its complainers as well as its worshippers. Heck, in my view CP/M was the best OS and I wrote a lot of code in Z80 Assembly Language back then. There was a lot you could do with just 48KB of RAM and an audio cassette recorder for storage.

Seriously though, I have had every version of Windows since Windows 286 (before 3.0) and once a newer version came out I would never choose to go back. I even liked Windows Vista but moved onto 7, 8 & 10 as soon as they came out.

Nostalgia is great but the future is always ahead of, never behind us.

Just some extra cents to have thrown in, I have had a laptop with windows 8 and upgraded to win 10 without any issues and now have a desktop that came preinstalled and have had no windows related issues to speak of. It seems quite stable and as previously mentioned 64bit would be the way to go. Of course every pc is configured differently and I can understand the frustration that some experience but as far as transitions go for me this was relatively easy.

Good luck, I think XP was a great OS for its time.
