You all know who you are! this is very bad, to say the least. This is a form of selling your content. Within freeware content and if you cannot buy the payware that goes with it to make it work.you can not use the freeware download.

Hmm .... If this is true, Chief, then it's not very good! Is there any warning that payware will be needed?

Cheers .... Rick

To be honest with you, content creators may choose to use payware content.

The only thing you can do is to ask content creators to mention which packs are required. Simply telling content creators not to use the payware content is likely to cause issues.

Shane

Well, I'm okay with that, as long as a person knows payware will be needed. It would be nice to know about it before you download the route or whatever.

Cheers ... Rick

If you make a route and download it, and you have pay wear on your computer, it is very hard to separate the pay wear from your route, just as it is impossible to make a route without freeware that is not on the DLS if you have downloaded some from another site in the past.
There are no markers to say that this is pay ware or this is not on the DLS. if there was life on trainz would be a lot easier but as it stands we'll have to muddle through the best we can.
Besides what's wrong with deleting missing content and adding your own if you don't want to buy or find missing content?

I think what he means is that some of Sim Central's Payware stuff, such as the BR Class 14, is on the DLS for no reason. They show a little Dollar Sign where the location is, such as the DS sign or Laptop is.

A number of my DLS assets use dependencies from S&C the reason is historical, at the time TC3 was the latest version of Trainz and I used some of the dependencies available in the built in route of TC3. TC3 became S&C so although the dependencies from built in routes in TS2009 made it to the DLS those in TC3 didn't. I think some have since been added to the DLS by those who created them for TC3. At one time Murchison was available for free but you needed a payware scenery pack to see its full glory.

Things aren't always black and white.

It's very easy actually - just load your route into a clean copy of TS whatever and download the missing stuff from the DLS. You'll soon find out if the route includes payware or non-DLS content. Even better is to build the route in a clean copy then you won't make that mistake in the first place.

I luv my payware trees much nicer than the other ones and they weren't made by the person who made the route.

Yes Paul granted, But this is my hobby, I don't intend to make it a chore, I like to unwind with my hobbies not get wound up about them.
If people don't want what I have done to them, then don't load them, It's that simple for me, anyone can PM me if they want help.

Actually, as far as I know this is extremely easy:
In search, put a filter on "locally modified = false". All 3rd party stuff, to my knowledge, is flagged as "locally modified". All stuff downloaded via CM (and not modified after that) will not have that flag.

I can't double check it as I am about 9000km / 6000 miles away from my game PC.

Then again... If you download all your stuff from the DLS via the website, I fear everything is locally modified.

Your Post HEADLINE reads as though someone has pirated payware items, and uploaded them to the DLS via embedding them within "free" content...
-You'd make a great "journalist" for the Huffington Post.

What it boils down to though, is tough cookies!
--A freeware item on the DLS that requires Payware Dependencies is NOT a CRIME, and needs no further action, other than to buy the payware, or delete the asset from your Trainz installation.

Stop being childish, ranting and raving about how dispicable people are, over such a trivial issue.

locally modified = false gave me 6,803 assorted items of all types.
locally modified = true gave me 66,951 assorted items of all types.
there may have been a pay ware item amongst them but I did not see one, so I'm sorry but that won't fly.

My guess is you use the website to download your content, not Content Manager.
No, it will not show you what is payware or not. My guess is it will show you 3rd party downloads (in other words: What is on the DLS or not) if you did use Content Manager.
I am writing "guess" because I am 9000km away from my PC to check this on, but I am pretty sure about it.

If someone who does use Content Manager as his/her main/only source of download from the DLS can check this and confirm / deny this, that would be great. Else I will do this myself 4+ days from now. Again: Not for payware, but for what is 3rd party or not.

All assets "imported", via "content" or "CDP" (this INCLUDES DLS items dowloaded via FTP from the Black Pages), are classified as "locally Modified", and as such, can be distinguished from, along with "locally modified" DLS assets, from the "Built-in" or straight standard "DLS CM/CMP Downloaded Assets".
--3rd party Payware will show as "locally modified", where-as, Sim-Central Payware will show as "Built-in".

There has been a related discussion (on DLC payware inadvertently finding its way into a layout) in another thread. http://forums.auran.com/trainz/showthread.php?112246-Telling-DLC-ware-from-DLS-ware

From that I learned how to tell the subtle difference in CM icons between DLC and built in (i.e. Trainz DVD) content - but what about payware from third party sites? I agree, a warning in the description would be nice, but as I discovered, the creator of a layout may not always be fully aware of where all the assets used have come from.

Assets that you have obtained from the DLS and edited (e.g. to "fix" them) will also show as "locally modified".

Yeah, that's what "locally modified", by definition, means. (I thought that was common knowledge, but I guess I could have spelled it out.)
