There's no "Trains" folder in my installation of Trainz 04

I'm trying to import locomotives that I customized in paintshed from Trainz 2004 to Trainz 19, they show up in and are playable in trs2004 but, for some reason there is no "trains" folder inside the "custom" folder.

I recently just reinstalled trs2004 and paintshed after needing to factory reset my computer, prior to that I have been able to import from the "trains" folder.

Short answer you can't because paintshed is out dated and doesn't work with anything past trs06.

I think you misread what I was saying. From paint shed, I save to Trainz 2004, normally the custom locomotives are saved in the "trains" folder in the files of trs 2004, I then open the launcher for trs2019 and go to "import content folder", then I navigate to the "trains" folder and click on the locomotives that I want to import.

The problem here is that the "trains" folder is missing, so I am unable to find the files for my custom locomotives

The data-structure for TRS2004 is flat with no referencing database like we have today.

Instead of a hierarchy of folders with content that's referenced from a database, TRS2004 had all content in a single "world" folder. In some ways, this made things easier, but in many ways no because referencing assets in-game was much slower. That wasn't so much of an issue back then because there wasn't a lot of content but with some installs with well over 330K assets like mine, having everything dumped into a single folder wouldn't work.

The package manager, aka content manager in TRS2004 works, but its interface is quite confusing. I used it once ages ago and don't remember anything about it other than it was clumsy.

My recommendation is to search the world folder for your content. You can search within Windows to find your assets by looking for a file name. The other issue is when adding content manually, you need to delete the .chump files and let TRS2004 rebuild that when you start again for content to appear in the program.

The custom Trainz don't show in the world folder, and I can't find them using the windows search. If it helps, I noticed that paintshed's save path stops at the "trs2004" folder.

I'm wondering if the files were even saved, though. Have you tried running the program as administrator? Right-click on the program icon and choose Run as administrator. You'll be prompted to hit OK to do so which you'll need to do in order to run the program. This process isn't uncommon with older programs such as TRS2004 and newer operating systems which are much more secure.

It's possible that the Paint Shed program is pointing to the program folder and to the the .exe rather than to where the data is supposed to go.

It's been quite a while since I used TRS2004, but from what I remember the trains folder was always empty for some reason.

I fixed the problem. I decided to experiment by making a new "trains" folder and reinstalling paintshed.
