Disaster......
One of my test trains couldn't make it up the L'Anse Hill last night.
5 GP9's built by CNR were stalled about 1 mile north or Herman, MI last night. The train consisted of 84 ore Cars on a test run up the Hill...up from Marquette earlier in the day.
Traffic was backed up for 8 hours.
Finally the decission was made to lash up another train from the CNW that was backed up in the traffic to the stalled CN Train. Consisting of 7 CNW Units's from RRmods.com and pulling 104 loaded ore Cars of it's own.
Couldn't move it an inch....
Next a CN Train was brought up the hill. Consisting of 2 SD40-2's from RRmods.com and pulling 60 WCL empty ore Cars.
Couldn't move it an inch...
Finally and as a last resort....3 recently purchased GP15 CNW/UP units from RRmods.com were brought up to the rear of the stalled Train(s).
She growled and thundered like hell fire for what seemed like forever.....then in the pitch back.....those 17 Power Units in all managed to move that Train at first an inch, then a foot....then a yard. When that freight hit Herman it was moving along at a clear 4 miles an hour.
I've read about that L'Anse Hill....it has one of the steepest grades in the US, and the bitch that thing can be.
It'd be a good thing to put up some helper Units on this route. At least four of them somewhere arround L'Anse....or the Nestoria Yard.
