Too bad you didn't have any U30C and Dash 7 U-Boats and LS&I ore jennies to complement your layout. Regardless, excellent job with what you've got so far. Looking at all of your screen shots makes me home sick.

There're a few items out there to work with, but the art....colors....represent a 7 year old technology...they look like they were painted with color cayons...back in the day TS04....alas. I'm still waiting.

I'm spoiled rotten when it comes to rolling stock...there is just way too much good stuff to choose from. I love all my CNR stuff.

That's the idea.....

Hello
i really like your route and once your finished are you going put it on the DLS?

That's the plan...not finished even, before April 2011....just to see how many computers I can get people to buy.

But mind you this is a big route when it comes to trees and such, it's in the woods an hills up here....no matter what I do, no matter what I use I still end up with.....mostly 20,000 to 40,000 speedtrees in view, your either looking up at them or down on them....and you can't billboard that stuff off, 30,000 speetrees drawing out to 5000 meters.......all swaying in the wind....as I wind through the woods at 35mph in my computer rendered train.

I bought a dell optiplex 960 last winter and have 8 gigs of ram with win 7 64 professional. I've got a Nvidia GTS 450 for graphics. That cost me a thousand. Tiger Direct had some kit build Intel i7's for just under $1000 around Christmas. That's what I'm going to do to run this thing for fun next winter. Technology and realism are getting close.....I don't really know, but if I had to guess at this point there are 1.5 million trees on this board and as many grasses. And it's about 35% done. And it's as real as it get's for now.

Step by step how to make a Up North, North American wilderness lake

Here's a shot the origional dem....I took all the grid a long time ago and replaced it with pea green...it's saves time and you don't miss covering any grid and get that bleed trough "x". You can always put the grid back in for track later the origional hog dem colors remain......notice the dem is slightly off to the left....the lake is on the hill. I'm doing this live, as the girls are playing rummy...so it isn't going to be rapid fire posting, but I'll show you how tonight.

Just lay down the water and raise it.

Until the shape matches the dem....the water flows down hill to another body of water so I connected it with a spline as indicated.

Next remove any trees from lake and paint lake first

Use the darkest colors first and then lighten them up with shore line, spinning and feathering....

Dark colors first....

Now I use to...

I use to spend a lot of time trying to get all them square corners off the waters edge. It's a pain. I tried all kinds of vegitation; reeds lilly pads...the were all too bright or you couldn't see them a mile away, and they seemed to "scroll into view"....I found this grass from the DLS from a german which you can see 2 miles away as you approach in you train....I'll show you next.

I use this grass to smooth my water land edges....wait for the pic

Now give me a few to finish up the shore line...it sure would be nice if Trainz at a machine gun option to just hit that mouse key once and repeat fire these grasses in place.

Then I add in some re-skinned JVC Custom Wawasoo boulders

Don't ask me how I did it but I could do it again using PEV Tools and Gimp...May be JVC woild let me clone up his boulders and release them on the DLS? Ask him I'll make you or show you how to make up your own boulders.

What I have found is some place off the map I put down in a 1x1 grid all the grass I want to fill an area. Then I copy and paste, making sure to have scenery only selcted, the grid in to a 6x6 grid. Then when I want to fill a large area, I just copy and paste that 6x6 over the area I need. And if needed I make it into a 12x12 grid to cover a larger area. Makes things kinda faster.

Here's my idea Einstine....

I put the lake into a 4' flood state, it's outter banks get pushed out. Instead of being just this sliver of blue out in the woods as you approach Negaunee...you see a lake.
