The reversing train thing with Cab-Cars.

Okay I think I figured out what's going on.

I use train cars and locos to test junctions once I set them up, and I noticed that the train cars don't change the signal aspects, but locos do. Then I tried the Shoreliner/MBTA Horizon Cab-car and it acted just like a regular passenger car. The MN Bombardier or Pullman Cabs act like locomotives and change the signals, so apparently there's something different somewhere in between the cars.

So me thinks that this is why the drivers get confused. They want to run loco-forward no matter what, and even though the cab-cars have engine controls, they are still considered regular passenger cars no matter what.

The change direction command works with locos, or so it seemed, but not the cab cars. I'll do more sleuthing and see what's going on. Perhaps a config-file change may rectify this issue.

I think because those cars were built with interors & were edited to do that.

Exactly what I was thinking... When I get a chance, I plan on doing a comparision between what works and what doesn't. It maybe a simple config file change to fix that.

I forgot about the acmu but the shoreliner is also a cab car and both passenger and cab cars do not have an interior view. The cab car is not powered but the locomotive is powered. The shoreliner cab car is just in push pull configuration and has a signaling system in it.

In Trainz-life (as opposed to real-life) it's better to make the cab cars locomotives and use a silent engine. Do they run by themselves without the locomotive on the other end?

I just checked and the cab car will not run without a loco pushing it. I think this is true because it's kind is "traincar". In fact you can't even save it in Surveyor as a functional consist without a loco, or at least that's what happened when I tried.

Inclusion of this in the config file allows it to act like a loco such as lights, and you can even add a horn sound to the config. It will run silently when passing.

I kitbashed a bilevel push-pull cab car making it a "silent engine", and it will run without a "real" engine at the other end. This video;

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OVgdbd-Laxw

About 3:20 shows the cabview, not the right one for that car but I figured good enough for now. One thing I found with that recently, I originally assembled the train from the E8 engine back to the cabcar and then reversed the cabcar to get the cabview at the back. It actually works better if I place the cabcar first, then assemble the cars, engine last and flip that. You can drive it from either end, you just have to hit the 1 key to go into the cabview for the end you select, then move the reverser forward and back to get the game to acknowledge which way is "front" now. Next thing is to try the session from that video again, see if the backwards created consist will spawn from the portal backing up. For the video I used switchbacks - spawned the scoots from a portal forward onto a switchback, then had them reverse from the switchback into the station.

Stuff in the video for those interested;

Interiors should download with the cabcar and engine;

The interior shown is a slightly edited version of this...

It can be downloaded from the DLS.

It was edited from a lighting and color standpoint.

Very attractive... in my opinion.
