The Podunk & Tekken Route

Ferrous

Going...going...
Just something I've been cooking up for a little project of mine...

No, that's a different location than the first pic.

Well, that's all I've got for now. I'll update as often as my schoolwork and attention span allow.

Also: It's a fictional route which I will put to...use. It's supposed to be somewhere in Tennesse on the ex-Southern NS.

Please, by all means, be brutally honest. I already know tht I'm nowhere near as good at this as anyone else on the forums...yet!:hehe:

Well, after a long hiatus, and an important lesson learned (save every 15 minutes at least!), I finally got some work done on the route.

*Note: No scenery yet because I couldn't get the City Splines off the DLS.

The yard:

Full Circle Roundhouse from the DLS (by that name):

Refueling area:

From the platfrom:

Looking back at the station:

The small coach yard/Commissary and the West end of the yard:

The track actually goes a bit farther, but there's really nothing to see.
Yard plans from pg. 24 of the August '06 Model Railroader.
It'll look better with scenery. Sewiously.

Sweety! Do the Norfolk Southern still is run in Tenn or no anymore? And do you know that my favorite it Norfolk Southern that MY LIFE:cool:!

Also, look as great of your route! So that beautiful and I proud of you, man:wave::)

1) Yeah, I'm pretty sure they do...
Yep, The Wiki agrees.

2) Yeah, I thought it might be... :hehe: (I'll take NS over CSX any day--trying to get CSX to move private passenger cars on time and to the right place is an enormous hassle, and don't even get me started on UP!:hehe: )

3) I'm flattered, but it really isn't all that great (yet).

Wish I knew... give me about 9 hours an I'l probably have an answer.
(because I'm at school now :p )

If I recal its JUST big enugh to mount a big boy, or it might be just to small, I forgot...

Well, you're right (kinda). It's 100 ft long, which is JUST big enough to fit the Big boy on it, BUT it won't fit the tender, and the tracks don't match up across the pit.

Hmm...

Maybe I should make my own full-circle roundhouse...

Actually, as it turns out, the "120 foot roundhouse" modular kit on the DLS does enable you to create your own full-circle 120-foot-turntable roundhouse. It just takes a bit more work lol...

That's what I was thinking of...

And with a 3-day weekend on the horizon, it looks like I've got the Highball for scenicking* Tekken.

And as soon as the man with the credit cards and Paypal account gets back from the ARM convention in Pennsylvania, I'll be adding to my collection of Southern rolling stock.

*Is that how you spell it?

Yes, I'm aware that the sidewalk is messed up, I fixed it right after I took these photos.

trsroute1ankm7.jpg

Ah, a familiar edefice (to me, maybe not to anyone else :p )!

Some improvements have been made since these photos, but nothing incredibly noteworty. Although, I have filled the yard so full of cars that most of the boxcars now collapse whenever I get near!:hehe:

Up next, the hills between Tekken and Podunk...

Thanks, and I've got some more coming up the pipe...

BTW, tracklaying is 98% done, and scenicking 90% done. Just have to put in the South loop and portal, scenic that area, secure the star of the layout, and then I'll be ready for filming.

Er, wait! Did I say filming?!? I meant, umm, Enjoying to the max! Yeah, that's what I meant!

Done.

The route is done.

Now all I have to do is film and somehow get the bloody audio off an intro I can't find. Oh, well, guess I'll just have to do it the hard way...

So, on with the screenies!

First, I finally convinced the keeper of the PayPal to let me pony up for my new star:

Lovely. And, my heritage fleet is now complete! Here's the lineup:
trsroute1aozn0.jpg

Now, I was trying to reduce polys in the area of Tekken by using boxcar splines (since the only person that will be looking closely at the route will be me), and something interesting happened:
trsroute1arcm4.jpg

Uh oh!
trsroute1asnw0.jpg

That's fixed now, so filming is all clear.

That's the Lethbridge Construction spline by Vulcan. Kuid:60238:38183 on the dls. The red construction gantries are integral in the spline.
