The NEW Simulator Central site is broken and no support

I bought 2012 on the new site for download. I started to download it and the files get to about 90 percent and the server hangs. They only give you 10 attempts. I did the file a second time and my attempts dropped to 6 from 9. I did it again and it droppend from 6 to zero. What is up? They really need to use some form of download manager to allow restarting of failed downloads, remove the limit until the file is actually completely downloaded the first time.

Then I tried to open a support ticket. Guess what? It tells me it's not available and to try later. Did this about 5 times and never could open a ticket. So I opened a ticket on auran.com explaining the situation and they just dont bother to reply. I know this was a good price on 2012, but if they can't handle downloads, then start mailing out dvd's for free.

When i bought 2010 from steam, it downloaded overnight in one try with no issues. I gave up on steam because they have lousy support and thought auran would be better. Maybe not. Buyer beware.

That would be difficult to do. It is the user's responsibility (I should know, as I'm a user myself) to sort out a download manager to do the download or use Google Chrome.

My download manager works just fine. Its the website that times out the download because the files are 2 gig each. I can do a restart manually with my download manager, but not if the website tells me I have zero attempts left after 3 tries out of 10. And google chrome won't fix the broken support page or lack of support.

Which browser are you using? Firefox or chrome should have no problems with these files.

Thanks John

I use firefox with internet download manager as an addon. it works extremely well on downloading files. It works well on simulator central until the server times out. It has restart capability, but simulator central will not allow a restart because it mis counts the attempts and sets them to zero. And how come support from auran.com will not respond to a support ticket (actually two now). Do I need to post the support ticket numbers?

I have no issues downloading content from the internet, i do it all the time. I am just pissed that I can not get any kind of support and have to now use a forum to get anything.

I really didn't come here to get recommendations on what browser to use. A good robust web site works with all of the major ones. If you look at other threads in here, this isn't the only issue with the new web site. The real issue is the developers of this did a poor job testing and since its brand new just launched, they should be around to correct issues immediately. I think the issue in the support ticket page is a huge oversite. That should be the first thing tested, and as a backup, they should have opened a gmail account temporarily for the first week and had that option for users to use with problems.

All I want to do is download what i paid for. If i do not get a reply to my two open tickets timely, I will just have Paypal cancel the payment.

By timely, you will need to wait until Monday as N3V do not work weekends.

The main problem you will find is that most browsers cannot handle the large download files.

Shane

I dont know where you heard that Shane, but most browser handle large downloads just fine. I can download huge files all the time from other sites. I can download a full dvd movie. And I opened two tickets up on Thursday, is that a weekend in Australia? You can defend them all you want, but the bottom line is its BROKEN on their end.

And with a brand new site launched that actually collects money, I would for sure have someone work weekends for a couple weeks at least.

They sure better fix the website first. No sense buying a product if you cant get it. The lack of support from steam is why i decided to use auran directly. now I see that they are not much better or faster.

Just bought the Blue Comet for the $4.98 price on the download site using Chrome. Worked very well. I would like to see them get rid of the black text boxes where you have to fill out your address etc, that are placed on a black background? Like looking for the Holy Grail.

Firefox without any download manager works perfectly. It probably your add on.

Sorry John

James,

As you know, or should know, N3V is not a fly-by-night operation. I use Free Download Manager which they recommend for my downloads and have not had any issues. I have however had this problem with other websites including www.technet.com which is owned my Microsoft. They recommend their own download manager to handle their multiple-gigabyte sized iso images and I use theirs when I download disk images from their ftp site.

The problem which I've also read elsewhere is not so much the server its self, but your ISP, or even your network wire connection its self, or even your browser. Both Firefox and Internet Explorer suffer from this issue with Firefox suffering from this less.

See here:

http://www.geekstogo.com/forum/topic/174169-disable-the-connection-with-the-server-was-reset/

and here:

You may not like the fact that we make suggestions on how to fix problems, but this is our "job" in the Trainz Community. We help each other out by providing support for both the actual product as well as the technical support for network and hardware issues. We also make suggestions for what to purchase when people are stuck with poorly performing hardware, want to upgrade, or worse have failing hardware. Us techie people overall have been industry for years. I have been in the technical support side since 1985 when I was supporting early PCs and video terminals. In my current work-role, I am the sole support technician for nearly 700 local users at a very large software company.

N3V is also located in Australia and is about 10-14 hours ahead of us in the US. This puts them currently in the middle of their Saturday evening or early Sunday morning. They are also a very small company with a very small support staff. Putting in a ticket here http://support.auran.com/ rather than emailing them is your best bet. They eliminated the old helpdesk email address because of too much spam. Have patience and they will contact you. However we do suggest you try the Freedownload manager first and see if that helps.

downloads

I bought 2012 and settle and carlisle yesterday and coronation scot today i've had no problems downloading them with firefox,
except that I paused two files on 2012, when I tried to restart them the download link was broken and had to lose one of my
ten downloads.
I received the keycodes yesterday for the two I bought within minutes. however no keycode has arrived for the coronation scot or acknowledgement.

Perhaps the website is having problems:
