THE NEW ROUTE EXPANSIONS - AVAIALABLE ON DISK?

I note that all the pre-order options for the latest Trainz routes are for digital download only. Can Auran or whoever confirm that these will be available on disk as well as this would be the only way I would be interested in purchasing them.

Surely it's something the wider community needs to be aware of, not a matter for private correspondence? My comments on the TC3/S&C upgrade/rework notwithstanding, I might still be interested in purchasing the Murchison pack as I'm getting something of a NG interest on at the moment. However I'm not really prepared to buy as DLC, only if supplied via CD/DVD.

So I second the OP, Auran - are there any plans to release the new content via optical media format?

Just looking at Auran's shop site it appears to be "only digital download" at this stage. That's not to say that won't change. Auran might be getting CD/DVD pressed off as we speak ????? - http://www.auran.com/auran/store/ - http://www.auran.com/auran/store/index.php?p=50&page=1&group=1&sort=2

If Auran's only going to market the 'digital downloads" of these routes/layouts then you may have to buy direct from the makers of the first two to get the CD/DVD copy. Here's the links;

I don't know what the conditions are in your part of the world, nor why you could not purchase the download version. You can log onto the Auran store from just about anywhere, so in my part of the world, I could go the library (where high speed availablity is to be had for free), log onto the site, purchase the downloads, and to a thumb drive. If I can't burn the DVD at the library, I can take it home, and burn it there. I did exactly this when I purchased the download versions of some of the TRS 2006 expansion packs.

Not everyone has high speed broadband, those that do may be subject to download limits. Even with "unlimited", start d/l too many > 1Gb files in a short period and the ISP will be throttling your access.

The recent trend with DLC (maybe not TRS but certainly stuff for Rail Simulator/Railworks) is to impose a strict limit on the number of times you can install. If I'm buying content I want it on a "hard copy" CD/DVD that I can reinstall from as many times as I like - maybe even with a printed manual in the box as well.

I too want to have a proper hard copy on dvd in case of problems with computers. Also that download is half our month's download. Then what guarantee do you have it will work anyway.
If they want to sell their product they will need to have Dvds available
Cheers,
Mike

I agree, it would be really helpful if someone from Auran can let us know if they plan on eventually releasing boxed CD/DVD versions.
(I surmise that they will, as you can't sell "digital versions" in retail stores, (only boxed copies). Surely one of the best way to market to the wider global masses is through retail stores...
One good thing about digital downloads though is that it usually cuts out the "middle men" & the cost of packaging, producing, wholesaling, postage, etc, etc. That usually equates to lower prices...
I'd certainly expect the cost of a "boxed copy" to be higher than a digital download because of all the extra costs involved in producing a boxed copy...

"Pre - order" usually means that even the Digital Versions are "not quite ready yet" so if the digital versions are not quite ready, there's no chance the DVD copies will be ready yet. (It can take weeks/months to organise the art work, get the boxes/packaging made, get the CD's/DVD's burnoff/made, labelled, packaged, etc, etc)... so digital downloads will be able to get them out to the masses a lot quicker...

I`d like to back up the installation program to my external HD as I do with all my purchased software from download. Is this possible so that I can get rid of the approx 3 gig from my working drive and not have to download again? After all it runs its own checks to make sure its been legally purchased. I just need to know the location of the folder and the knowledge that just replacing it will alow me to continue using it after I wipe the drive at any point.

I put 2009 on DVD.

Hi all
As Chris has said, at the current time they will only be available as digital downloads.

However, for those that want them on DVD, there is a simple solution. Make a backup of the download to a DVD, the same goes for any digital download really. Make a backup, and then use that to install from.

maybe you guys in Australia could 'pop over' to Auran and get 'em to burn you a CD/DVD there. :D

Well I won't be bothering with Murchison until it is available on DVD, but thanks for the clarification anyway.

But where is the download kept, mine auto installed and gave the option of cleaning up the install files. Warning I would lose them if I did and have to download again on subsequent reinstall. Nowhere did it say where they were kept.

I don't know how your computer is set up but mine was in my DOWNLOADS folder. I simply copied it over to a DVD and now I have it in case I do have to do a re-install.

The downloads from the download station are automatically installed by Trainz (unless you manually download all cdp files). When installed, they go into the 'local' folder in your Trainz install.

The digital download (which is the game itself) should not auto-install, and you should be saving it to a location that you will remember. And you really should not delete it if the installer works.

The add-on packs are also digital downloads, and as such should not auto-install in the same manner as items from the download station. As such, they will end up in the folder where you download them too.

For download station downloads, you can still back these up to a DVD. Simply make cdp files of them using CM2, and back these cdp files up to a DVD. Or you can download the cdp files individually from the FTP server, and back these up.

All I can say is I purchased from Justtrains (justflight). After paying the download started, This was a 1.42mb Trainz09 Web Bootstrapper (Mastertronic) and I had the option of where to save this. The only options were buttons to exit, resume download, clean up and install. No options of where to place the downloaded files at all. On hitting install it began download the main program (as in the game itself) but no option of where to put it, all done automatically. First it downloaded the files, then it installed. So I don`t know what its called or where it is, only the location of the bootstrapper which tells me theirs an SFX Zip archive of 2,347,601,221 total length and 811,920,346 packed length. No name, no nothing.......
