The General, a US Civil war locomotive

UPDATE to the Museum General should be available by 10/3 on the DLS. Download the entire engine to make it easier.

Update included fixing the main bogey to not SWING so far to the right and left on corners.

Anyway, it should be available.

Civil War General UPDATE

Ok, here is the latest for the Civil War version.

DON'T judge the tender, haven't even worked on it yet.

Not sure if the "blue" on the engine is proper, a guide I'm going by shows it as almost silver.

Still have a little more to do with the textures and then I'll start on the cab view.
I had to make a compromise on the scrollwork on the rear cab roof. Either 2 polys and it is THIN, or I could make it "realistic" but then it would be a polygon hog!!!

At least 1024x768 in that final blue would be nice for a desktop.:mop:

Tell ya what. I'll (try to remember  to) post a decent screenshot when I'm finished tweaking the textures and the tender. All of the shots I have out are not the finished product. Keep in mind, the blue is a bit darker than in the previous screenshots. But it sill looks great!

Sounds good, no big deal. I can always wait until its downloaded and use fraps to do a few in 1600x1200. May I ask what you plan to work on after the Civil war model? By the way I like the darker blue too, must look great in game with 4x AA turned on.:)

After the C.W. version my plans are to do the Texas and the Yonah. Both of these engines were involved with the "Great Locomotive Chase" that happened in the Civil War.

Not sure what you mean by 4x AA????

Old memories re-lived

Good to see this..I actually got to ride this loco in 1962 when it was on tour around the US. I think it had been converted to oil burner. It was on display in Memphis,TN for several days then it actually pulled several vintage cars around the city. The seats were all booked, so I had to ride on the outside vestibule on the first car behind the tender. Lucky me !!
:D

It indeed was converted to burn oil. You so lucky! I believe that was in the heat of a dispute between L&N and the city of Chatanooga as to where the General belongs. I'd like one of those pics for a background, though for my computer the resolution would have to be 1280 x 1024...:o

You know, I just got my copy of L & N Magazine, and one of the featured articles was on the life and times of the General. Pretty Cool.

I also got my NRHS bulletin, only 2 years late! :hehe:

Just to keep you up to date, I've been working on the cab view for awhile.

Here is the latest image, I think I'm done with the outside textures on the tender and engine.

I think I'm pretty close to releasing it. Looking for help with the enginespecs, had them done uniquely for this engine, but it has an issue or two! When that is done, it should be available.
