The Future Of Graphics

This will change the gaming industry, it will change all payware for all games,
100,000 times better graphics using todays hardware,
goodbye polygon,
is it the end of Nvidia and ATI Graphic cards
steve

Very interesting but where is the rest of the detail like who, when, where, why and how?
As for no more graphics cards, Nvidia and ATI, who do you think would get richer from this kind of new technology? ;)

I've already seen this a couple times on these forums, from years back. It doesn't seem like much progress has been made, especially towards implementation.

Yeah, right..!!

Yeah, right..!! If anybody thinks creators who produce your assets for free are going to invest in the kind of technology that is going to be required, apparently a laser scanner for a start and then the cost of this package if it ever comes to fruitition, then they had better start thinking again.
Auran/N3V might be able to afford it, although I have my doubts about even that, but most creators cannot and even payware ones won't, there just isn't enough money in creating assets to warrant this kind of personal and financial investment.

And to me that didn't look like a 'real world' at all, just another 3D sim....

Those trees looked better than most trees, even if it is only 10% as good as they say it's still 10,000 times better graphics than we are getting now.

sorry Spruce didn't mean to take from your thread, i just found out about this today, didn't want to read a few hundred theads to see if someone had already posted about it.

After a carton or two of beer i could more than like spill beer on the scaner or sing to it one or the other.

I doubt its going to catch on due to the fact its going to cost more than to just run with graphic cards. Maybe one day but not right now. I personally like graphic cards, because you can control what you want it to do. Least on the higher end ones anyways.

I've seen this video before either in the forums here, or as a link from one of my technical newsletters I get.

What's interesting is much of these capabilities already exist with our current hardware. There are multiple sets and layers of command-sets that we never see or use, although they are there for the pickings The problem is no one, and I mean no developer and game engine creator, has really tapped all of the technology our graphics cards are capable of. An excellent way to see this is to check out the demos on the manufacturer's websites. Go to www.nvidia.com for example to see what the different cards are capable of.

One of the problems I think is the cost of implementing these capabilities. When a developer purchases a game engine, they can spend $100,000 dollars and more depending upon the features. The problem then is the version of the engine purchased at the time, and what it's capable of. The later video cards weren't out when the engine was purchased, and therefore those graphic-set calls weren't available. The other issue also is marketability. Do developers want something that will only work on product x?, They sure would, but reality dictates otherwise because they need to make something that will go for the biggest return on investment (ROI), and will therefore go for a more compatible approach, meaning they will pick some new features and implement those found in the majority of the hardware out there today.

The simple fact is that it easy to knock something without knowing to much about it,
as he states in the video you are welcome to prove them wrong?
it would be crazy for any graphics, gaming computing company not to keep one eye on these guys
he talks about a polygon converting software not a multi million dollar anti matter converter
this could even change the way movies are made and also do away with your favorite over paid actors ,it would be just like using the same loco image over and over in trainz only with a different story line as like a different route.
time will tell.

i just hopes this works becuase my first interior model had over 2million polys. if this pulls throuh i could actually use my old better model
