The Canadian Thread - Hi-Res images

Hi All,
@rick I really like the waves at the edge. That really makes the difference. You have a really good eye. I'm glad there aren't any oceans in the mountains of BC :).

Cheers,
--Michael.

Thanks Michael, I like that texture the best so far, I'm not giving up on a couple of rollers coming in just yet. I may try to get another line or two of land just breaking the surface and then slap the texture on it. Worth a shot anyway. Off you go then, try to catch up with my other friends. Hurry up now, those 2 are most likely there already, flexing their muscles and strutting their stuff!

Chris, I see Michael's skins have caught your attention too! I'm not sure, but I thought he said he was having a bit of a problem with that one.

-C, I have not put the idea of using an early model CNR switcher with a 50's paint job on it out of my head yet. Just 1 though! Hee, hee, every time I see your signature, I'm thinking, "why is this person giving me a C minus?"

Just waiting for the wife to get home with her lobsters. I don't eat that garbage! I have a pretty good idea what they eat. I see lobster boats dropping their traps as close as possible to sewer treatment plants! I guess there are no appointments at her shop today. Now I have to summon up the strength to go kayaking!

Cheers all, have a great rest of the day........Rick

Geez, how long does it take me to type these things! Thanks D, just saw you up there. OK, you get the last spot! I guess you will have to sit with your wife! Which ever one she is....you're a lucky man!

OK, I'm out of here, later guys and gals ....Rick

I silently judge. Kidding. I'd just love to see some Multimark CP SD40's hauling some freight across our beautiful (digital) country.

Morning All; I think with a little practice, someday I will be able to get a little wave action going! I'll stick a surfer out there one of these days and see how he looks. Back to work on the rest of the beach! Although the color of the beach rocks is good, I just don't like them. If I get sick and tired of the beach, I'll move on to something else.

Cheers.....would you believe those are waves?....Rick

Rick

That is one great looking beach. I really like the line of seaweed, the first time I've ever seen that done in a screenshot. How did you do it?

As for the rocks (the ground texture), the color tones fit in pretty well, but it's obviously a photo of some river pebbles, so perhaps they would look better if they were smaller. Can you scale them down? In any case, a great scene.

Hello there Deane! First let me say, I really love all the goodies you have given us. Your stuff is all over my route! Thanks very much! Well, sir, that "seaweed" is some of your great pond scum! I have an area on the beach where they used to pick up beach gravel used in building projects back in town. I'm using other versions of your pond scum there to simulate a couple of piles of seaweed that have been pushed aside. All I had to do was place the scum where I thought it looked ok. Sort of where the average high tide might leave it. You made it very easy for me!

Most of our beach areas have these stones that must wash in, or are what is left after some of the dirt has been taken by the sea. All kinds of different types of rock, various sizes, mostly about a foot or so. They might weigh between 5 and 20 pounds. I believe what I used are indeed some sort of river pebbles and really look great at their proper size. I am going to search around for some more rock textures, I haven't downloaded too many textures. There must be many more I can have a look at.

I usually get up between 2 and 4AM. Do a little work on the route, then the boss has me working or playing for the rest of the day!

I'll be using even more of your stuff on the beach. All that "derelict gear" of yours should come in quite handy! No telling what might wash up on shore!

Trying to build a route and adding scenery is all I can do. If it was not for guys like you, I'd have to give up trying. So, really, thanks so much to you and all those who can create, skin, and all the other things that are way, way out of my league.

Cheers....Rick

It's kind of ironic, I gave up making routes because it was too hard. So I would not look down on route builders by any means. It's been my pleasure for the last few years to make some odd-ball stuff as the fancy takes me, and very gratifying to see people finding them useful. If you have any ideas for types of 'junk' that I haven't done yet, drop me a line, I may be able to make it.

So the seaweed was pond scum eh? I didn't recognize it. Now that I think of it, I also made some dead fish that might look cool washed up on a beach. I think it was called 'fish kill' or something. You could also build some rocky outcrops on the sand just to add another point of interest to a long beach scene - quite a number of creators have made rocks, boulders etc. Just a thought of course. You're the artist!

If you made it, I've collected it! Possibly not anything that can not be used in the 1950s, but , I may have even snuck (? what, not a word?) some of those in! I know at least a couple of fish kills are lying around!

The reason I find the route building easy is because my route, although mostly modeled after the real thing, it's very, very basic. There will be no AI drivers, no signal system, etc. I could never build routes like you see here! Lucky for me, in real life this WAS a very basic route. One train a day (maybe) out to the end of the line and back. A fella could putter about the yards and town.

Hee, hee, I wonder what others may be using the pond scum for? I have seen it in ponds, and it looks great!

Cheers ... Rick

Rick there wore 3 trains a day one run in the morning and afternoon then a later one went up but didn't return untell the next day that was later on wen disle ran up and down the MRL. on my bite trips I saw no remeans of singles or anything other then the odd tie in the bushes it is a very simple route even not that much is unchanged ( having biked 85% of it myself ). there are 3 old iron briges that stell have there ties.
Here a few pic I took of the remains of this route.
Ricks route today 2014. ( I have more then this )

Mike, do you have any plans for releasing that 4-6-2 a few pages back?

It needs a little more work. It's pretty far down the queue; TS12 has become useless for my KVRR layout. So I've started a new layout and once I've done a bit of work on it, I may return to a few unfinished re-skinning jobs. I'll post a picture in this thread, please keep your eyes peeled.

cheers,
--Michael.

Thanks for all that, D. I will be putting in a "passing siding" or two, just in case something is coming from the opposite direction. Hee, hee, I'm pretty sure that's not going to happen!

The first steel bridge you come across (past Shearwater, big dark storage tanks near by) is the one with the 1914 builder's plate on it.

Cheers .... Rick

Will Rick you be happy to know I'm planning a nother hike up the former line but I'll be starting at Musquodoboit Station and finishing the tail to the end ( if stell Exists ) after that I'm no longer going exploring on it I got other ones that I plan to trivle on eather this year or next year.

Morning D; I must have a good look at your video later on. I think I may have gotten 5 or 6 miles past the big iron bridge (just past the "Harbour" station). It was clear and clean all the way, like some one groomed it! I'm not sure where, but sooner or later it may become impassable. I think they may still be clearing away the damage from Juan. I imagine it could get very hot as you keep heading up the valley. It would be a treat for the eyes in the fall!

Cheer ... Rick
