I wan't go trough the major quibbles you recognized in the West of Denver route here. More qualified people then me will do it, anyway.
Bulding a routhe like the West of Denver (an all other routes in this category) is an huge effort.
Think about 6 peoples working just like two year long on a project where they put about all the freetime they have to present not only the route, but just like everything needed to make it "prototypical" (this means about 500 objects...) from the tracks to the tunnels, from the Coors Arena to the Union Station to the river's water.
Think about 6 months of extensive betatesting.
Think about the physical faults of Trainz that doesn't allow to connect two routes on different levels without having bad effects.
Think about the different Trainz versions on the market that react differently to the grafic engine.
Think about the necessity to keep it playable even on middle class computers.
Well... a route like West of Denver put the hardware and the software at the limit. And the people that want to do it.
Think about the very limited market for such a product.
Think about the faults contained in all Windows versions as presented and you will have the idea.
Think about evenings spent on oline discussing how many stars the US flag had in 1915, researching, looking for pictures.
Think about money spent to buy books, magazines and anything that helps giving the idea of the real route.
Think about two versions (fall and winter) with many different contents to give more chances to have a nice product.
30 Euros, the price we ask for, ist just the costs of a normal diner here in Italy, OK, an italian diner, with real italian food and wine, and the Euro is now about 1.35 Dollars. Are you unhappy about this? We are it too.
Do all of this make sense?
In my opinion it doesn't.
Only a huge passion and the convincement to give something important to the comunity can justify such an effort.
That's the reason why both routes come from outside USA. No money on the poket.
Who's ready to do it? Only people that belive they are doing something for the comunity.
In fact, with all the money we collected until now we had a diner together, just to justify the effort.
The price we ask for is only a way to say: go forward boys. You made a good job. Go forward and do something more for us.
For all these reasons the first reaction to such a critic is: you want better and cheaper? Boys, do it by yourself, if you can.
Good luck.
On the other side, we had a big support from the international community, and we are going forward with other projects that we will offer to the omunity soon: the Rollins Pass route will be a totally new project that we hope will go forward again on the route of offering more realistic, more playable routes. Have a look of the pictures and materials we are posting and you will have an idea.
