The Backshops Work In Progress Thread

The "Sounds of 1401" recording features a Hancock 3 chime. I think that's where the idea that all of the Ps-4's have Hancocks comes from. I've read that the record was actually of 4501 running with the Hancock installed. With the info available, would it be possible/safe to assume that a Ps-4 Pacific would have had either a Hancock 3 chime like in the record or the standard 3 chime like most Southern locomotives?

Watched it, must've been, if the SOU managed to get 1401 to run in excursions, we would know

For the Ps-4 project, you have plenty of reference material to work with? Plans for both the engine and coaches, historical info, rosters, etc?

I forgot to reply with a specific quote. Let me try again.

Does at least the Casey Jones engine have a good progress going on?

The Illinois Central 382 "Casey Jones" project is coming along slowly but surely. It had been placed on hold because I choose to focus on completing the ALCO 0-6-0T and begin working on other tank engine projects. The other reason for the wait is I have chosen to redo and rebuild much of the model as I discovered issues and historical errors half way through. This is NO guarantee, but I'm aiming for this to be a summer release. Can't tell you when honestly.

Looks good! I can't wait for it to be released, but I do completely understand. I actually wanted to take a shot at the model myself, but I have no experience when it comes to any kind of 3D modeling, so I am glad that someone with more knowledge than me, is taking on the project! Are you basing the locomotive on the drawings or the model?

A mixture of diagrams, models and photos. For such a well known locomotive, there is actually very little info about it. So I'm using whatever info I can get my hands on for it.

A few weeks ago I was rummaging thru all the stuff I have in my bedroom and I came across a black and white photo of a Southern locomotives. I just went back and found them. They are pictures of:
A fireman's side view of Southern Ps-4 4-6-2 1394
A fireman's side view of Southern E unit 2903
An engineer's side view of Southern Ls-1 2-8-8-2 4021
These pictures have no writing telling me where or when these photos were taken, but if you're interested, I can scan them and send them to you in an E-Mail.
EDIT: I stand corrected about the dates and location. Only the picture of 1394 doesn't say where or when the picture was taken. However, the picture of 2903 was taken in Alexandria, Virginia in May 1960 by an unknown photographer. The picture 4021 was taken in Birmingham, Alabama sometime in 1947 by Frank E. something, I cannot make out his last name. However, the pictures of 4021 and 2903 were part of the collection of a R. H. Hanson. There are two separate addresses on these two pictures, and if you're interested I can send you the addresses, along with scans of all three pictures. However, I cannot remember where I got them and when.

0-4-0T is coming along. Will include at least 8-10 variants, basically showcasing different headlight, cab and tank arrangements. (alternate cab not built yet)
