Terrain Texture Glitch

Vern

Trainz Maverick
Not sure if anyone else has encountered this.

I wasn't very pleased with a third party terrain texture I used on my Mallaig route so used Trainz Objectz to replace with a default TRS2004 texture. On opening the route in Surveyor I got a missing assets message so once in the route I used the delete missing assets command to clear that.

However on running the route, after heading west for about 10 miles I was suddenly confronted by only partially textured sections - the replacement texture had not gone in revealing the grid underneath.

Okay, into Surveyor and attempt to manually fill each section/board with the texture - laborious but do-able. Unfortunately after filling several boards with the texture on going to a new board the programme was undoing the filling on one of the previous boards.

A nasty bug in TRS or has Trainz Objectz messed up my route?

Or is the route too big and hit some sort of memory limit?

I do have a backup which I will restore but it will be with the original terrain texture which I wasn't too happy with and of course have lost 2 days of 3D placement.

Hi Vern
Sorry I can’t answer your question directly but I would suggest replacing the texture in question with an unknown kuid via TO and them deleting missing items in surveyor that way at least you would be sure that it was deleted before you retexture

You might be up against the 256 texture limit. I've also noticed that if you use fill texture on a board it doesn't always stick (unless you also manually apply some of the texture...

Other than that, I'm not much help - sorry

If you're using the Fill function it will only do a few boards at a time before forgetting where it was. I don't know what the limits are if you texture by hand.
I try to remember to save after every two or three boards so I don't accidently run up against the limit.

 Claude

Thanks for the response.

I've now reloaded the backup to (hopefully) get round the problem but means around 3 hours worth of 3D placement to catch up on.

I certainly haven't used anywhere near 256 terrain textures though - probably 20 max.

Well here's a thing...

After restoring the backup the problem was still present so whatever corrupted the route must have occurred prior to trying to replace the texture with Trainz Objectz. Followed a piece of advice above and before using the "flood section" command with the texture painted a little on the surface. That seemed to take doing 5 - 6 tiles at a time and saving in between.

The other thing I noticed where the grid was revealed is that the square lines had gone a bit skew whiff in places, merged into each other at a 45 degree angle.

Scary.

Anyhow I think the policy with this route now will be to do the minimum necessary to get the remainder looking presentable and upload to the DLS "as is" rather than risk any further problems.

I don't know about the rest of your texture problem, but the above quote is evidence of a rotated missing texture.
