Have new computer, 4QuadX256,500GB hard drive,64 Memory cache,4GB ram and ATI Radeon HD2400 Pro 1 GB, but still having problems with TC3, when I go to driver pick route and click cab mode, I get train times, and a blank screen, have to go to top of screen, FIND OBJECT, and find loco, where am I going wrong, any advice will be appreciated by Totnes. Thank you

Hi Totnes,

this type of behaviour is usually caused by a missing asset (or several).

Are you talking about a TC3 built-in route? - if so, it's possible that the install didn't go correctly.
If it's an imported route, I'd guess that you're missing several assets that were built-in to previous version.

HTH,

Colin

Thank you Colin for your reply, have reinstalled Trainz Classic and TC3, same problem, perhaps patch needed, another question, when you are driving, can yopu bring up timetable, have looked in manual, but cannot see any reference, your help would be appreciated. Totnes

A number of updates to content have been made available at http://trainzclassics.co.uk

Yes, but if Totnes has just installed TC3 again the built in sessions should not be showing a blank screen and there would not be any missing assets. Does the session show up OK in Surveyor? If so, what happens when Quick Drive (Ctrl F2) is selected?

Sounds like it could be an issue with the graphics card, or the display sessions. That is something way out of my comfort zone so I regret I can't offer any constructional advice.

I know that, perhaps I should have elaborated a little when I posted but it was getting late! All I was hoping to do was point out the updates that are available, like you I'm a little bemused by error itself.

This is what I was thinking. Perhaps he should try running the program in DirectX mode instead of OpenGL.

Let's start with the basics.

Question one is was TC1/2 installed on the computer before the first install of TC3?

Question two is which version of XP or Vista do you have installed?

Question three is do you have any anti virus software installed?

Question four is have you run the Microsoft Malicious Software Removal Tool?

get it here http://www.microsoft.com/security/malwareremove/default.mspx

Question five do you have Microsoft update running automatically?

Question six what type of account are you strying to install TC3 in?

If you can answer these questions we might be able to pin the problem down.

Good evening, other than TC3, have METROPOLIS and Moudula City Custom Map, , have XP home, Avast antivirus,, could not download Microsoft, and sorry don't understand ?5. When i go to Surveyor everything loads ok , and except forCarlisle/Skipton ride, all others go to blank screen when i go to CTRL 2, if i then go to find object and click on station or loco, full desplay appears, , it is no problem doing this, hope my explaination makes sense. I suspect that the installation is corrupt in some way hence the questions.

Question one was did you have TC1/2 installed before installing TC3. I get the impression you didn't. If you did then there maybe some clean up we need to do if not then we can ignore it as a possible cause.

Question two XP OK but I need more information. Go to control panel, performance and maintenance, system, on the general tab it should say something like XP Service pack 3. I need to know the service pack number if any.

Question three probably not my anti virus product of choice do you know enough to be able to disable it when running the installation?

Question 3 b) Did you disable it during the installation?

Question 4 did the link not work or why were you unable to download and run the tool? One possibility to be ruled out is your machine is infected in some way. This free tool is extremely useful for verifing your system is malware free.

Question 5 open control panel again, on the left you should see Windows update, click on it.

Question 6 if you don't understand it then we will assume you are working in an admin level account. This is the correct type of account to install TC3 from but is unfortunately means your computer is pretty well wide open to many types of Malware. You should set up a user account which is limited so that software cannot be installed when browsing a web site for example. Do this in control panel.

Just out of interest which browser are you running? I have a suspecion its IE6. If it is please upgrade to ie7 as a minimum to protect yourself, or better still Firefox 3.0 with noscript addon.

The reason I'm asking all the questions about security is I once came across a machine that had two dozen different bits of Malware on it. Once we reformatted the drive and set up the machine with user accounts and admin accounts and got windows update set up all the problems seem to disappear.

another reply

Good morning,

I have only installed from disk and TC3
Home Edition Veersion 2002 SP3
Disabled Avast
My fault with download, now have it and have run it, no malicious software found
Windows update completed
Upgraded to IE7

I very much appreciate you taking time to sort my problem out. :) Totnes (Don)

So it sounds like uninstall TC3 then reinstall TC3 with the antivirus software disabled whilst you install it.

Then reenable your antivirus software and it should all work correctly.

Thanks John
