TANE gone from registered serial numbers (steam version)

Concerning the topic, I would like to ask about a related thing.

I.
If I buy TRS19 or TRS22, will I have the SN (Serial Number) or Key (CD-Key, DVD-Key, etc) with me forever or will it be possible that the same thing could happen to me as to the topic starter ? In other words, will it be possible to play a purchased game when several years of time pass ?

II.
What will happen to my purchased game if its technical support comes to an end ? Will I be able to play off-line when all the servers go down for some reason ?

III.
Where can I read more about EoL (Eond-of-Life) policy of the existing products ? For example, Microsoft has a public document where they state EoL for all their products. Does Trainz series have similar policy ?

Thank you.

Ohh, THAT is a concept I'd not ever thought about.
:unsure:
True, the internet has been available in a publicly usable form for around for about half my life, maybe longer, but I still think in "solid mode", where if you buy it or are given it, then you have it, period.

Yup and we can apply the techniques from the real modeling to virtual railroading as well such as fewer details in the distance and fewer assets where not needed even though we can flesh out a full world completely down to fire hydrants in distant cities we don't even connect to.

But anyway, I posted the solution above. He lost his connection to his database, most likely through a crash. He needs to use the Trainz settings on the Launcher and the Install tab to reconnect his missing data. This was an issue with T: ANE that was eventually solved through a later patch but the issue could still occur.

"Solid Mode" doesn't guarantee anything if the software requires an internet connection and the server and/or the company goes away. Or, we have a lot of game CDs that my wife purchased from Iwin, but over time we have both upgraded to new computers, and we had to change our emails when our provider stopped providing email servers. I recently tried installing one of the games, but now all we can get is a one-hour demo on any of them, because our login information is lost to time.

next year it turns 10 years old and support will stop......
It turns out that actually the Trainz: A New Era game is already out of support according to the Trainz Wiki.
Trainz: A New EraSeptember 2020

Moreover, it looks like support of Auran / N3V games is scheduled and is not related to the mentioned 10 years as some one stated.

Wikipedia is not a Trustful Site to get information from...... you got your information wrong on when it came out as well next year is the 10 year of it.
Actually, the Trainz Wiki itself says that a stable version of the Trainz: A New Era game was released in May, 2015.

So, the date on Wikipedia is correct as well as the date on Steam as I mentioned earlier in the message #17 of this thread.

@McFly888

Trainz versions lose direct company support but usually not on the schedule outline on the Wiki page. TS12, for example, was supported a few years after the stated date and content made at Build 3.7 is still supported by the Download Station servers. Keep in mind that once a version goes out of support, the community will continue to support the user anyway, and for the most part the community provides 99% of the end-user support for all current products.

@JCitron
Thank you for the information. It looks like everything is even more complicated than I thought.

P. S.

By the way, how do you make this @-link non bold ? When I copy-paste any user's link and press bold to unbold it, it remains bold. If enter the BB code mode and without any changes exit the BB code, the link is immediately broken. IMHO, this forum needs a button to make a user link like in other software because in order to emulate it I have to edit BB code manually which is not convenient.

It is more complicated than it appears much like a lot of Trainz stuff. ;-)

I'm sorry I don't know much about the new forums. Only a few months ago, we used the ancient but reliably comfortable BB-forums and this upgrade is still a learning process for us and is still WIP. With that said, you're better off just taking things as they are rather than fighting them.
