T2 Support

I don't want to upset any trainz friends but out of friendly curiosity I would like to know the reasons why such an obvious low % of active members have chosen not to support the new era trainz yet through kick starter.

One of the threads in the Kickstarter forum by Tony Hilliam covers this. It's mainly due to funding issues or wanting to pay via Paypal I believe.

Whilst 1223 backers at the time of writing might not be high in percentage terms compared to active users. I still think that's quite impressive. I also suspect there a few more to come in the next couple of weeks. Investing in a product that is not due to be available for 12 months is not for everyone and many will just want to buy a product when it comes out. Personally I think the Kickstarter Campaign is brilliant and I welcome the chance to feel more involved.

Check this topic:
http://forums.auran.com/trainz/showthread.php?107429-To-pledge-or-not-to-pledge-That-is-the-question!
Loads of people who pledged just guessing and suggesting there, but hidden between those reactions you will find a few people posting why they did not pledge.

Can we please let those who did not pledge respond to this topic instead of letting those who did pledge guess or put words in the mouth of those who did not pledge?
Maybe we can then learn something instead of scaring those people away.

I have supported Trainz up to now but. The failure to correctly download Murchison 2 DLC from SimulatorCentral has made me lose confidence in the system. I bought some addons at the stage before HF4 and they downloaded to my PC and I installed them. They all worked perfectly. Now with this new DLS system I can not get an error free download and install of my previously purchased programme.

I am going to wait until the fuss dies down with the future version and it appears to be working before I consider spending more money.

Have you contacted Helpdesk over that, Spruce? It may well be that something at your end is impacting on it, as N3V did make changes to the system to allow it to download correctly.

That's not N3V's fault I'm afraid - blame Kickstarter for that. Don't forget though that debit, credit, and prepaid cards that bear any of the 3 logos shown on Kickstarter are supported.

However, as long as we can reach the initial goal at least on Kickstarter, N3V may set up a Paypal option in addition to the Kickstarter method (although after reading a recent article about Paypal and them putting a hold on crowdfunding funds, I can see why Kickstarter don't support them).

for the excuse of paypal etc.... another option is get a prepaid debit card., but for most that are sitting back hopefully this first round works that may convince others it is worth the investment but if it comes up short., funding wise.
I would be very dissapointed!

I have read that some pre-paid cards sometimes do not allow overseas transactions ... and too they deduct a $5, or more, service fee every month, depleting your funds on the card slowly, but surely.

My reasons why i dod not pledge:

A.) I am 17 and have no credit card and also no paypal
B.) I have no money....its BEFORE christmas, not AFTER
C.) I dont want to pledge for something i may not care about in a year, because if it will be released in 1 year, i may dont use trainz any longer....

Instead of pledging i placed an Ad + the video and some KS info on my website (which has 240+ views a day). I hope i can help to get more backers with that...

As Tony has said though, promoting the project is as important as making a pledge (which I agree with). A note though - Kickstarter does support certain debit cards/pre-paid cards if not having paypal or a credit card is a problem, and the $5 or $20 pledges does allow one to support the project but not actually wanting a copy of the game when it's released.

Hi everybody.
for the excuse of paypal etc.... another option is get a prepaid debit card., but for most that are sitting back hopefully this first round works that may convince others it is worth the investment but if it comes up short., funding wise.

Mtldrm, why should anyone be expected to apply for another debit card just to accommodate an organisation that is asking them for money for which in exchange they will receive nothing at this point in time? Surely, it is for those requesting funds to ensure that all avenues of donation are open to those who wish to pledge.

PayPal is also not an excuse. There are many throughout the world like myself who have credit cards linked to their PayPal account. We use PayPal because we do not wish to give your full credit card details to every faceless Tom, Dick or Harry each time you make a purchase via the Internet. I and many others perceive that using the PayPal is far better by way of security as there is only one place you will have to look should something go wrong. Some would argue about that but for many millions of us that’s the way we carry out our transactions and are unlikely to change.

it has been posted In the media that one in eight credit card users here in the UK had reported some Perceived fraudulent or wrongful activity on a card in the last 12 months (I believe that is the right figure but doubtless someone can advise if inaccurate)

Also,to state that it is not N3Vs fault that PayPal cannot be used, then that I would challenge. N3V set up the fundraising by way of kickstarter and must have been aware of the restriction on PayPal pledges. Therefore, if there is any fault in the above it must lay at the feet of N3V.

Also, in terms of company finances 12 months can be a very long time as many businesses owners will bear witness to in the period 2008 - 2009.

Bill - I must point your attention at Update #13 on the Kickstarter project page. N3V are looking to accept Paypal payments for certain reward levels, but that will be separate from the Kickstarter side, and if the Kickstarter side does not reach the initial goal (which is unlikely) then the Paypal method will be no help whatsoever.

In addition to this, a link was posted in one of the Kickstarter-related forum posts regarding Paypal and the fact that they basically put a hold on funds for a crowdfunding (may well have been Kickstarter related) project and the people behind the project had to fight to get the hold removed.

Shane

The likely scenario is:

  • The KickStarter goal will be reached
  • Those who want to use Paypal will be able to do so via the N3V shop

Was planning to list a few of my reasons for not supporting KickStarter until I noted that nearly every post was countered by a follow-up post from Shane Turner thus defeating the purpose of the thread.
