Norfolk & Western - Appalachian Coal TANE 002

Ever since I discovered the Narrows Coal Crushing facility in Gawpo50's N&W route it has bugged the heck out of me that it was stuck out on the end of long dead end spur.

I knew the facility actually existed at Narrows, VA but it made no sense. If you were taking a long drag of coal cars from the West to the East and they needed to be crushed you had to go all the way to Radcliffe to get turned around and then take it all the way back to Narrows. And there was nowhere to get turned around at the facility. I knew there had to be another bridge somewhere West of Narrows.

Ah, ha! sure enough there was in fact a bridge just west of the facility

This is the first draft of the bridge. Turns out that the southern bank tracks were double tracked there which I'll have to add and, although I had already extended the sidings at the facility it turns out that there are actually 4 long sidings there but it looks do-able.

If you love this route as much as I do this alteration is pretty much mandatory. Have fun!

Edit; Phase 2

It looks like I'll need to lower the river banks and build ramps up to the beginning of the bridge structure. I know I've seen that truss structure in trainz somewhere, I just have to track it down.

Edit2; Ah, a Whipple Truss, thanks Colorado71!

OK, looks like I have all the pieces. :D

Hello normhart

Would you please add this bridge as a session for the route.

I just made a little test and connected the rails on both side with a rail spanning the river and I could save it as a session. I think here is T:ANE better than TS12. In TS12 you had very often the message "Do you want save the route and the session".

Nice shots everyone :).

Very nice, Erik from Sweden! Just wanted to point out something...

Why does it seem most of the time, a lot of content that is similar to Erik's is way more detailed, than American and Canadian (Canadien?) content? Primarily, non-choo choo things. Just saying...

:)

Oh, that's an interesting concept. Wouldn't work in this case, I think, since I've moved a lot of the route's assets like the bushes, rails on the south side to allow double track, and modified the terrain for the embankments up to the bridge, I had previously modified the Alliance Coal Breakers facility and sidings, all the trees are mcguirel's payware, etc, etc.

I'm still taking measurments in google maps so I can get the relative positions of the piers right so it might be quite awhile before the bridge is "done".

Not to rain on your parade but the bridge at Narrows was only built after the N&W Virginian merger so the N&W could abandon the Virginian between Kellysville and Narrows since the lines ran parallel for this part of the route. Much of the Virginian is now highway 460.
Heres a picture of the bridge from last summer.

So the bridge was built after 1959? Grrr. I guess I'll keep working on it since it makes the play more interesting but... oh well.

It could be HD photo textures are making the difference.

Erik may i ask where that garbage truck came from. Looks really nice
Hi.
As usual, I have "spilled" some paint on my truck ;), but the original is available on DLS, "Cuk-Garbage-Truck", <kuid:93112:3035631>.

As usual , Erik, you create realistic situations, and an amazing atmosphere...

Fond of your pictures, Friendly, Marc

Nice work Hewi the only thing i'd query is the second pic with the edge along the grass that kind of looks as if the grass is floating a little bit hence the shadow beneath it, But yeah you certainly are one of those amongst us with the talent for making great scene's nice work mate.
Cheers Mick.:)
