T:ANE (in development) screenshots...

Humid? That crystal clear screenshot looks to me like a beautiful, clear, and rather cool West Virginia morning...not much haze, no fog, no mist! Wouldn't mind standing there in that spot right about now...

Heh... Thurmond's always a great spot to visit, regardless of the weather. :)

I grew up just a few miles from Thurmond, and I still live just about 5-6 air mile from the town and the New River Gorge in general. Growing up as a kid in the 1950s and 1960s, June was always a hot month and it also the month when the older "family" members would come to visit. This usually meant meeting them at the train depot at Prince. The next day our visiting relatives always "demanded" a visit to Thurmond. Thurmond was their "Mecca", the place where they paid their respects to what remained of the town and its ancient railroad infrastructure. They'd all lived in Thurmond during the early 1900s through the 1920s, as spouses or children of C&O railroad workers stationed in or working out Thurmond. To them, railroading @ Thurmond hadn't been just a family occupation, it was a spiritual experience. ;)

Down in the gorge, the morning fog usually burned off fairly early in the morning and by 9 a.m. or so, they'd turned into low, thin strips of "clouds" that floated a few hundred few above the bottom of gorge, a few hundred feet below the top of the surrounding mountains. By 10 a.m. all traces of the morning's fog were gone, and the sky had turned a beautiful shade of deep blue. Usually, by 11 a.m. or so you could feel the temps and humidity growing, and notice a few clouds forming above directly above the gorge, and typically after noon, you'd experience a brief, light rain that lasted only a few minutes. Often times, Mother Nature would repeat this cycle of "tension and release" throughout the day.

At any rate, does this hazy shot from Thurmond looks more hot and "summery" and the 2nd one looks "colder" (due to lack of haze?) Dunno... ;)

Having grown up in the Blue Ridge, all I can say is that crystal clear summer mornings have always been rare! Even on the best of days, the mountains are shrouded in a little haze. But, I have certainly noticed brighter and clearer days since a lot of heavy industry (such as Armco in Russell, KY) have shut down, scaled back, or cleaned up. Thanks for some more great shots!

After running trains on the built in route C&O Hinton Division Route made by Peter. Decided to share some of the large collection of shots I took during this extremely long season.

Oh, I know what you're saying. In the highlands of "New River Country," the distant mountains often look hazy during the warm months. I can see the mountains surrounding the New River Gorge from my house and they're often hazy looking. But they're about 5-6 miles distance. Mountains even further off in the distance look even hazier.

But when you're down in the bottom of the New River Gorge, at the level of the mainline tracks, you're usually not going to be able to see more than one or maybe two miles at most. You're down in a deep gorge that's a winding, twisting channel. You're surrounded by sharply inclined hills and mountains that tower 800 to 1400 feet above the elevation you're at. You're not going to be able to see the mountains that lie beyond the deep channel you're in. Normally, you simply can't see far enough to get into the "hazy range," unless it's a very foggy day. As I said, the mornings can be foggy, but that doesn't last long.

I have a question for you, Matt. How did that Morris Minor van get there at the rail crossing? Doctor Who? :p

Dave

In which photo?

All these pictures are great! I love seeing Baldwins and lots of different, varied content being used together.

Thanks Meow, mixing up content from various railroads is my specialty. I do support realism but since there are not enough routes for all this great content, I have to go back to my roots with my style I use with my Lionel/MTH 3 rail layout I have in my basement "Where it does not matter if its not from the area, if it looks good then I run it no matter where it is running".

I hope to post some more shots after work.

likely to be C:\Users\[your username]\AppData\Local\N3V Games\TANE\screenshots if you've installed to the default location.

@Matt3985

Nice shots but could you consider saving as jpg files rather than png ones? Each image is around 2-3 Mb and the pages on this thread take ages to load.

I agree and asked the same request, also takes up a lot of bandwidth.

The operator's coffee cup is shaking as the double-headed Piney Creek Shifter and a C&O mail-express train meet up at NI Tower in Prince, W.Va., in the heart of the New River Gorge.

Moments later the express glides in for a brief stop at the Prince Depot and the shifter continues on to the Quinnimont yard.
