Switchstands and layers

Just when I thought I was understanding layers this problem popped up. I loaded an older route to 2010 and some of the switchstands appear while others have don't show. I attempted to add a switch where needed and all I get is a switch with two red arrows. Went into lyers and tried different combinations with the route layer and session layer but couldn't place a switch. Any suggestions or reasons why this is happening? Thanks.

This morning I tried deleting a section of track and found out that if I delete just two of the joining tracks and not all three than I'm able to place a switch. Any explanations?

Boy! I had that problem years ago in 04. Then, for some reason I have never seen this. The solution was to go over every single one and fix it the way you discovered. Unless somebody has another way..

sound like the switch is moed away from the spline point,,
