Switches Thrown under cars

TRS 2009, I am having switches thrown under cars causing derailments. I have had a train come into the yard under AI, not clear the tail end switch and then that switch is thrown oposite under the car. When I bring up a switch engine from the rear to pull cars off the train, I'm up a creek with out a paddle. I can't get to the last car because it is on the diverging spline and the switch is thrown for straight under that car. If I back the train up it derails due to the switch thrown the wrong way.

At another locatiuon on my route, I was pushing the wayfreight in to a passing siding. An AI train had just left the next town headed my way. In the process, it threw the switch under my train and caused a derailment.

Is this typical of AI? Or could there be a cause of which I am not aware?

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

David

I don't know if this is of any help but there are a few rules that may help you.

Check Turnout Allignments KUID2: 216942:1001:1

Derailed Vehicle Eraser KUID2: 116387:4:3

That last one is useful if you can't resolve this problem! :o

Hopefully a more clued-up Trainzer can help you with this.

I'm not sure how any of these rules would keep AI from throwing a switch under my train when I am backing across a switch. Is this normal for Trainz? If so, I see it as a MAJOR flaw that needs to be fixed.

Hi David,

It is a known bug in 40088. I don't know if it is fixed in any of the SP3 patches included in the add-on routes. I've never been able to reproduce it myself. Don't install the latest beta at Trainzdev if you got the invite email over your 40088. It has many serious bugs.

Thanks, WIlliam. I'm sure that is the source of my problem. Can one revert back to the earlier release? Or will I have to live with this until the next patch is released?

David

You'd have to make a copy of your local folder then uninstall, reinstall and patch up to 38599 and then copy the local folder back into the new install and do an extend database repair. I'm not sure when this bug first appeared but I think it was in the run up to SP2.

David,
I know this thread is old, but is this still an issue for you? I had this happen to me just last night on a new route with long moving trains, going through complex track work, and under AI control. This is all in the latest SP2 update. Wanted to see if this is still a know bug before I go tear out tons of switches. I am also going to test some different invisible signals to see if it is related to that.

Thanks!
Joe

Joe,

I have moved on to TS12 and have not experienced this problem since. I am running build 58414. Seems to be pretty stable.

David

I NEVER, ever, had this problem with good ol' TRS2006 ! :p

Perhaps T:ANE should be a new engine applied to TRS2006 (which was the most stable Trainz version), instead of TS12

Here is a current string on it. Not sure it is helpful.

I am doing a major rework of "Cumberland to Connellsville" for TS2009 with built in only content. Getting a train from one end to the other under AI without being derailed by a switch seems impossible. Never mind AI switching.

The thread you cited is helpful! The first thing I want to look at tonight is the default settings for the switches involved. Next, I am going to take a look at the invisible signal placement on the line.

Thanks!
Joe

I know there is a "Remove Derailed Consist" rule ... there should be a "ReRail Consist" after 5 minutes rule ... Better yet, why do we need derailments anyway in Trainz ? (Unless you run off the end of a dead end track).

Just say NO, to running AI ... Saves you all of the headaches !

As stated in other threads, I also have this problem. For some reason, if I use an animated switches, there is no derailment! I mean, there is a place where the points change while the last car is still over them. Replace the switch with an animated one, and the problem is gone. It could be that the spline is where it should be in relation to the lever. Levers should be placed exactly at the center of the round circle.

TS12 61388 gives me the issue when using Auran Wood Track, I have resolved some by just redoing the switch, others continue no matter what I did. To finally solve the issue I tried changing track to a JR product, that worked, even a 50 car train is able to clear switches that before just wouldn't work right.

I have had this occur on occasion and found the same as Brian. If I place my switch stands/motors right in the center of the spline point, this seems to solve the problem. This will also occur if you use the junction linker since the AI don't see the other drivers for some reason and move the points right under another train.

John

Agreed: Junction controller will move the points even if the lock is on them (in Murphy's law, when a train is over it). You have to be very careful and plan what is going on all the time or it will happen. To confuse you, the junction controller may switch momentarily, and the point will revert to default right after, so that when you go see what happened, all you see is a derailed train.
