Supertrain : Once more with feeling....

Supertrain TRS v 5.5.5 - FAQ

Supertrain TRS v 5.5.5 FAQ

Q : Will this work on TRS 2004 & TRS 2006 ?

A : It was tested on both TRS 2004 & TRS 2006 to see if it works without too many issues converting from one to the other.

There are some minor issues, but they can be fixed by copying textures files from one train car to another train car, TRS 2006 doesn't like missing textures even if it's for older versions of Supertrain and said textures are no longer used by the current version of the train itself, meh.

For the most part everything looks nicer then it used to & isn't a resource hog like the previous versions of this were ( less polys for older comps running this stuff on 'em, gotta give folks w/ older systems a break yanno )

If anyone wants to do a high poly version of this thing feel free to do so, I won't do it as I tried many times to make a "Closer To The Real Thing Version" and never really got any where with it. ( complex curves are a mystery to me )

Q : Will this run on Trainz Classic & Up ?

A : No idea, but I was informed that if it works in TRS 2006 there shouldn't be any problems with it on Trainz Classic, as for beyond Trainz Classic, Unless there has been a major overhaul in the way the files are handled where they go and so forth and so on it should be fine, long as you put it where the game can find it easily.

Problem is I don't have anything over TRS 2006 to test this on as I can't find the games anywhere in this little hick town I live in, possibly should just buy 'em directly from Auran, NOT AS DIGITAL DOWNLOADS, I like having the discs handy JUST IN CASE of computer crashes due to whatever have you.

Q : Where are the tracks that go with this ?

A : On my website in my sig, as the tracks haven't been updated ONCE after making them for the train, the tracks were easier to make then the train itself, just needed a config file & the standard track texture, and that was pretty much it.

I made some minor tweeks to the config file but it was more for looks then anything major like an' even wider train then this one. ( yeah, right, like I'll make one after taking years just doing this one. )

Q : Every now and then you type It's just like the "Real" one in quotes just like that, why ?

A : Well, there was a "Real" Supertrain on the TV Show of the same name, It might of been a "Miniature" but it still ran on tracks, still was powered, even if it was powered like any other N / HO / O / G scale train & one couldn't ride on it for real, that doesn't make it any less real.

One could argue that with the "Sets" you could ride the train, it just didn't really go anywhere, well, until after post-production, then it would LOOK like it was moving even tho' it wasn't, Hollywood magic yanno.

There was also a "Standard Gauge Full Sized Supertrain" used ONLY in the Pilot episode, it was just an empty shell tho', they needed it for a typical chase on the roof of the train scene, Hollywood owns it's own Railroad, It's a circular track. ( Think of a cheap HO scale train set. ) Said railroad has been used many times in Films & TV shows. ( Most recently seen in Back To The Future Part ]|[ when Doc & Marty need to push the Time Machine )

The Train was the best thing about the TV show, the less said about the actors, scripts, plot, concepts, the better off you'll be, trust me I watched the show back in the day, it was pure cheese, but I was a big train freak at the time and would watch anything w/ trains in it, no matter how bad it was in other areas.

Q : Is Woulfe your real name ?

A : I refuse to answer that as it'd take a long time to tell why.

Short answer - I joined the 'net back in the days of TEXT only 'net and was worried about my identity being stolen ( still a problem in this day & age even ) and therefore wanted to come up with an "Alter Ego" to be online.

Needless to say also around this time I had also discovered Furry-Fandom and the rest as they say is history....

Q : What's up with the arrows & what not that you put after your - W - ?

A : Basically it's an ANSI version of the Supertrain stripes located on the Locomotive and the last consist of the Train itself, as far as I rememeber that's where they were located, the Supertrain fan site has more or less shown that this is true, even tho' I took a few liberties with the placements of them and the directions they face, on the last consist anyway, as there aren't any good pics of it, so I pointed them to the back, to be the reverse of the Loco were they point to the front end.

The Last Round House

Due to not knowing where to go next with Supertrain itself v 5.5.5 is the last version of the project, yup, after what, 5 years is it now ?
On to more trackside stuff for it....

;)

Gantries, Train / Loco washers, that sort of thing like that there....
I have a few ideas for these I'll be making over spring / summer this year....
Mostly stuff to make a rail yard for Supertrain that works w/ the design....

S.O.S

I found that it runs pretty good in TRS2004 if you have that version of Supertrain that is, as the TRS2006 version has too many changes to it to run in TRS2004.

If you know what I mean.

V 5.5.5 should work w/ TRS 2004, at least it did in all my tests of it.

Anyway what do you need help with ?

Sorry about the long reply, but was busy setting up Windows 7 & programs to run under it.

Link to newest version of Supertrain below

CDP edition still being worked on under Windows 7

P.S. 2

I've been thinking about the new My First Trainz Set
and transferring Supertrain to there in the future soon.

What that'll mean is that Supertrain may no longer be
for the verious incarnations of Trainz in the future,
just for the My First Trainz Set game only.

This is for 2 reasons.
1. the current train looks like a toy as it is anyway
2. gives me a reason to keep it uber low poly count

Then again, maybe not

Well, I now have MFTS and for the life of me I can't figure out how to put Supertrain into it, oh joy of joys.

Thought it'd be easy as doing it for TRS 2006, guess that's not the case here.
Oh well, no big deal, guess I just have to deal with that issue, meh.

:p

Back to the grind stone of gmax to make new track-side objects for Supertrain, guess I can't put that off anymore, eh ?

Not sure where to start on that tho'

Supertrain : TRS2010 Edition : Coming 2011

Well, I've gone & bought TRS2010 at long last after debating to get it or not over the past year. A lot of debating if I wanted to buy it or not, seeing how My First Trainz Set kinda fell sideways due to not being able to figure out how to import stuff into it, and the fact I'm under Windows 7 nowadays.

This means that yes, I will redo Supertrain to work with the latest version of Trainz once again, version number possibly won't change, but if it does it'll be v 7.0.0. Yea, I'm skipping v 6.0.0 - 6.9.9 just like Microsoft did for Windows 7, heh heh heh heh heh heh heh heh heh heh heh heh heh heh heh heh.

A one year old Christmas fruitcake ?

Nope....

This....

First ever TS2010EE screen shot of Supertrain arriving at the LA glass station on the Super Route ( HUZZAH ! )

A few notes about Supertrain's performance under TS2010EE

1. It will not go 200 MPH no matter what. Possibly due to new hardware / software settings on new computer, might just need a new engine as a base, like a rocket / jet whichever works best for it.

2. A few graphical issues along the route, untextured buildings here & there, as well as a few trees here & there, need to possibly redownload the problem trees / buildings to fix that issue.

3. The TeeVee consist had to be fixed due to a texture not showing up on it, this I did, wasn't too hard was just missing Env_Metal.bmp, easy fix.

4. Lag, at least on my machine anyway, might not happen with others. Every now & the the game will freeze up while running the train along the route, not sure what the cause is, might be the CPU / GPU working too hard on my machine even w/ the settings turned down a bit, in other words I need a better computer, no surprise there, really, however if others have this issue as well, let me know, then I'll know it's not just me.

5. The train looking funky close up. Textures look a bit weird close up on my machine, might be due to running the game under DX mode instead of OGL mode, I'll have to test that some more under XP & Win 7 to see.

Other then those few issues it runs pretty smoothly and looks great.

Oh yea, I love Dual Boot, wasn't able to patch TS2010EE under Win 7 at all, however it patched just fine under XP and still could run under Win 7.

Not sure why I couldn't patch the game under Win 7, oh well.

I just ordered TS2012, gonna import Supertrain into it wish me luck folks, didn't have much luck w/ TS2010EE, parts of the route were missing from it, meh

~ fingers crossed ~

It's a no go, in fact V555 won't work in anything other then TRS 2004, not even TRS 2006 will take it anymore, not sure why, but there you go
This means just what you think it means V555 is it, no more versions past it unless someone else manages to get it to work on the newer TRS
In other words I'm done with it, if anyone wants to take a shot at getting working with the newer stuff, go for it, if I do anything else with it
it'll only be for TRS 2004 only, trackside objects, roundtable, roundhouse, ect will only be created for TRS 2004 if I start on it even.
Enjoy what there is 'cause it's done folks

Well, after a short study, here's what's wrong with the Cars themselves.

They use .pm meshes, which have not been supported since TS2009 (I think).

Also, some cars are missing shadow models.

And I have a theory about why your enginespec is not working.

In Trainz Classics 3, the acceleration values have been changed. They need to be fixed by multiplying them by some number, I think 10, but I'll check.

Also, your shadow models are more complicated then they need to be.

Edit-4 is the number you need to multiply the acceleration values by.

Edit-Some of the shadow files are smaller than the cars.
___________________________________________________________
Edit-I was looking at the wrong version. Whoops. Disregard the above expect the info about the enginespec.
