Awesome work sniper! Did you need help modelling Chicago type signals?

Also how did you do the lighting effect for your tunnels? I'd like to do a similar effect for my BART layout.

Awesome stuff sniper ! im not a traction person but I felt this new town i am building needed some PCC's and a line to down town and its based off Philly where they still run old PCC's

Funny thing is I ain't either, the Chicago Metro is actually a switching (shunting) and short haul freight route, but since passenger trains run on the freight route the commuter trains and stations crept into it, and with the Lake Street L running alongside the C&NW Galena line I added part of that for background scenery and the whole thing snowballed from there. Original version just had the Lake Street line and I went ahead and built the downtown loop just to see if I could, then added a subway, then a streetcar and second L route, now I'm tweaking the whole rapid transit thing and I'm gonna need a 12 step program to stop. :hehe: One more shot;

haha its amazing what happens... for me i put the music on shuffle and go crazy, i like the mountain ranges now after making one easy to copy and paste and you dont need to go crazy on detail. Plus nothing like 2Gp's and 3 alcos pulling a mile long train up a grade... Some how i ended up making a huge city on the top of the mountain climb lol

Oops, missed questions. Signals, no, got one that works, I might possibly redo the whole rapid transit system signals at some point, currently got a lot of other irons in the fire.

Lighting effects courtesy of Jasc Paint Shop Pro (worth the dough), merely a matter of playing with illumination and 3D effects in whatever image editing program you use for a while until you learn what works and what don't. See my cabviews for some examples of lighted instruments, not perfect but better than totally unlighted ones to me.

More lighting effects still working on;

A Siemens S70 'Avanto', in the form used by UTA, MTS, LYNX, and numerous other operators in the United States -- Houston and Portland also utilize the S70, but their units don't have a front-end coupler for hauling multiple sets.

Isaacg: where did you get those buildings and the layout?

Those buildings are the wonderful pieces of art by the many talented Sketchup community artists, and the layout is a DEM by Fishlipsat work, entitled 'Boston'. I'm working on so many layouts right now, but this one is just a free-lanced one.

Excellent route Issac! Is there a way to get the LED destination to change, or is it just static at "Siemens S70"?

Working on reskins of David Drake's city building splines, one thing I missed that's a common sight from railroads in Chicago - the back porch. Some areas all the houses face away from the tracks and all you see for miles is back porches.

WIP, still looking for more variety and better pictures of urban back porches, anyone know other free texture sites besides http://www.cgtextures.com/ maybe we could make a list?

Apologies if University has me pinned down at the moment, but here is my collection of urban transit vehicles:
