Stupid PayPal

They will because I used one a while back. For it to work you have to follow the instructions that came with the card to activate it. Once you do that, give it a few mins and try to use it.

I got one last year, activated it, and tried to use it on paypal..Did nothing, but they did manage to take a 1 dollar service fee of it each and every time I attempted to use it. In which case I contacted the BBB after paypal did not respond, and the money was refunded within about 2 hours of BBB reading my email and getting in contact with paypal.

Paypal is probably one of the shadiest operations on the net, and I'm taking into account Nigerian princes. Watch them like a hawk.

I agree, when I was purchasing model RR stuff years ago I bought about 100 bucks worth of stuff. They charged the account about 5 times that and over drew the account...Then refused to pay for the fees that accumulated because of the screw up. Then the bank got in contact with them and magically they refunded the money and paid the fees. Which is why after the 2nd time with the prepaid credit card I will never even attempt to use it again.

I've been using Paypal for years on Ebay, Amazon & a few other sites that use it, but I've never had any problems with
them, in fact, they have recovered money from 1 dodgy dealer in the USA, as well as from a seller here in the UK who didn't
tell the truth about what he was selling.

I have been using PP since it's inception and have never had a problem with them. I think maybe the merchant's may be at fault.

Absolute nonsense

"Paypal is probably one of the shadiest operations on the net, and I'm taking into account Nigerian princes. Watch them like a hawk."

Absolute nonsense.

It's my preferred method of payment over the Internet. I've never had any problems and I certainly regard PayPal as a more secure means of payment than giving all my credit card details to some unknown stranger on the far side of the globe.

In fact I'm now at the point where if a retailer will not accept PayPal I go to someone else who will.

I have used PayPal for quite awhile, for all my payware purchases and Ebay. They got me my money back from an Ebay deal that went south. There is nothing wrong with it. I think the card I used was a Visa gift card, and as I said it worked about 30 mins after I activated it. Hope you get your problem solved.

This.

Paypal is only a problem if you're a mouth breather.

As a former seller on eBay, I and my wife no longer do auctions BECAUSE of Paypal. They screw sellers royally; all a buyer has to do is lie and open a dispute and they both keep the item and don't have to pay. Been there, done that a few times. Paypal requires absolutely no proof.

And their shady practices are not unknown:

So if you can't get your hands of some good railroadiana you may have been looking for, that's why. But, if you're one of the folks looking to pull a scams like that, I can understand the love for Paypal.

That's horrible. I'm an antique lover and the destruction of that antique violin disgusts me.

There are even whole websites devoted to Paypal horror stories: http://www.aboutpaypal.org/.

It's probably true for the americans, but in most of the world paypal is regulated like a bank, and thus has to adhere to the same laws as a bank.

America determined that it isn't a bank, and thus shouldn't be regulated, though. So paypal USA tends to be a lot shadier than paypal EU and paypal Aus.

i had this problem with a vanilla visa card i tried it today on jointed rail and it declined it again. the only luck ive had with a visa gift card was a giftcard.com visa card and i was able to purchase stuff on jointed rail as long as theres no ice cream cone vanilla logo on it then your ok. plus you dont have to register it with paypal. i know people who have gotten thousands robbed through ebay's Paypal system all from a scam listing. paypal seems to be alright aslong as you dont use a credit card and use a giftcard. all this vanilla stuff is making me hungry.
Hope this helps,

I can't buy any Auran or Doncaster Works items as paypal won't accept my (maestro) card for that yet it does allow me to buy items from GP locomotives. That said it isn't a major problem at the moment as I'm broke! :p
