Strange Train Prototypes

You mean this publicity stunt. They actually tested this beast just to say that they could. They closed all of the crossings and fired her up.

Edit: I have no freaking clue as to why the image of the Budd rocket car isn't working, so I will just give you a link to the image.

The Russians also made one.

One of them is just in the works in the Area 51 sektion of TrainzItalia...
The US, The Russian? This is one of the best keept secrets in the train stories.

Both these locos are on the DLS.
The first is the 2/6/e Br 15, the first locomotive in the World to travell faster then 150 Km/h. The second, Br 61 is an old content revamped in 2007. In fact most people doesn't knows that the Br 61 has been build at the end of the '30 in Germany in two pcs. The fitst, 61 001 was a 4-6-4T the second a 4-6-6T.
The picture, token at Henschel at the time of delivery, was of the 61 002.
I thought the first engine looked more Italian. I guess I don't know my German steam.
If you like the BR 61, you can find a pack of matching passenger cars by looking for kuid 72730:11401 and downloading the pack. Gerd made the whole train.

This 0-4-0 looks like a diesel, but it isn't. It's called the IDM-22, and it worked in Germany. It had a high pressure oil-fired boiler with a pressure of 120 kg/cm², whichis nearly 1800 psi!It was a steam-motor locoand was chain driven. It was a compound judging from the information given. There were two cylinders. The high pressure cylinder had a bore of 70 mm and the low pressure cylinder had a bore of 120 mm. Both the cylinders had a stroke of 140 mm. The loco was said to be able to get up to 60 km/h, but I don't know if it ever did.It was built in 1935.Assuming all wheels are driving wheels, it would be called an 0-4-0TG.

It seem that Germany has the most strange prototypes. I wish I could find that website that had all kinds of interesting German trains. Thanks for the post of that interesting switcher.

This monster was built by the Russians in the 1930's. Apparently the AA20 4-14-4 rigid wheelbase didn't like the curves and either straightened them or fell off!!

Read more here:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/4-14-4

well, this is the result of faulty research when the engineers came to the USA researching our 4-12-2s trying to figure out how they worked and you'd think they would up the ante by adding two more driving wheels and a four wheel trailing truck to come up with a locomotive of the 4-14-4, a locomotive that was too powerful, straightened up curves and broke couplers on the rolling stock it hauled? it is almost no wonder why this locomotive did not last long and not to mention it was too big and too long!
