Spline Bug At Fixed Objects - When Did It Start

I "may" have had this with roads. I've been re-building my route since copy-and-pasteing to alter the baseboard edge positions ( I started with a DEM from MapMaker, but have now gone to using TranzDEM).

As well as splines split across baseboard joints (which I expected - copy-and-pasteing 1 board at a time) I've also got all track splines detached from fixed objects, which I didn't expect, and which I put down to the copy-and-paste function.

This has also affected road splines joined to level crossings, and other road objects like road junctions.

Not a big problem, as after all this is a railway sim, but it may have a bearing on the current discussion.

Now to re-load the route and check what I thought I'd already fixed...

The detachment occurs at random having saved your work and exiting the programme then restarting.
It occurs regardless of whether you shut down the PC before TAD Daemon has finished running.
It affects virtually all types of fixed object and track systems.
Matching the spline point height on the track to that of the fixed object before attaching may offer a workround.
Changing the height or otherwise moving the fixed asset after attaching the spline may be causing the corruption to occur.

One other idea to throw in the mix - I have only observed this to occur with the track system, not roads attached to fixed objects.

A good summary Vern.

Point #1, I have experienced this regarding saving.
Point #2, I always wait for TAD Daemon to finish.
Point #3, Agreed.
Point #4, Agreed.
Point #5, Changing height of fixed object after attaching track increases the risk of partial detachment. Small movement position or rotation of fixed object seems to be tolerated (eg to improve track alignment and spacing).
Point #6, I am not aware of a similar problem with roads eg. at level crossings, but I will pay more attention to this and any other experiences which may contribute to the diagnosis.

Come to think of it now, didn't ECML in either TS2010 or TS12 as shipped (unpatched) come with many of the splines detached at level crossings? A bit of an aside I know, but you would have thought that might have started alarm bells rining at Auran/N3V.

I experience this problem of track becoming detached from fixed objects such as level crossings, passenger active stations and industries quite frequently. I have a suspicion that it is caused when the ground level under the object is adjusted using the terrain tools to level out the track. ...Scottish

I have a strong suspicion it is associated with heights. This is pure guesswork, but if I were looking for the cause I would look at the procedure that initialises fixed objects from their location informaton and find a case where the object height is being arbitrarily (or accidentally) adjusted for some reason. This height adjustment then causes the connection points to appear as unaligned, and the connection is not made. The height adjustment on load might be due to a characteristic of the asset, or it might be due to how it was positioned, or a combination - that is, a height setting for the asset that is a legal value when the terrain is adjusted, but is illegal, and gets adjusted, when the asset is loaded.

Most irritating part when I was making the Chicago Metro was that it always seemed to happen somewhere miles away from where I was currently working. So when I noticed the bug I had no idea when it happened, let alone the most likely suspect.

Route is about 15 miles by 10 miles. Turntables are at Proviso, Grand Crossing, 40th Street, and Burlington. I'm working at South Canal, getting the usual stupidity from the track tool "helper" moving signals and switches wherever I insert a new switch, who hasn't seen that nonsense? Add a switch to the mainline and then look a quarter mile down the track at a previously existing switch, no more switchstand or arrows because it decided to move it to the new switch. :n: Fix that and keep rolling, when the area is finished I find a kinked track section clear over at River Forest which wasn't there the last time I looked - and it's decided that it wants to be a fixed track section now, no longer a spline. Change to the static object tool and delete it, fly to Proviso, Grand Crossing, 40th Street, and Burlington, all four turntables are gone. What's the connection? No idea, South Canal is 5 miles from the nearest turntable and 10 miles from River Forest, how could working on track there affect something clear over on the other side of the route? Whatever it is really delays route creation, I end up spending a lot of time every day checking for problems before I start and checking again when I'm finished before making the daily backup CDP.
