speed trees missing in surveyor

I was going to tag this onto a post elsewhere but decided to create a separate one. According to CM I have all the speedtrees installed as I should as they are built in. However in surveyor I can only find SpeedTreeGroup_08/09 and 10. Can anyone tell me why the others are not showing up in surveyor? Or do they just have different names? I had presumed they ha the same naming convention as that is what it is in CM.

Hi Antony

For some reason there are a number of speedtrees that are set up in the config to not show up in surveyor. It is most annoying as it makes it impossible to swap them out with the replace tool. They have to be deleted manually which is a huge problem on a route such as the ECML. Some of these speedtree groups are framerate killers if you have an older computer. On my old machine I saw framerates jump by between 10 and 20 FPS when I deleted some of the large clumps of these trees. Unfortunately I can't give you their kuid or name as they don't show up in CMP and the pick tool in surveyor won't find them.

Why on earth would they deliberately disable a feature? Would it not have been simpler to have not put it in? Oh well the whys and wherefores of those in power. Thanks. I guess I shall go look at those config files see if anything can be done. But Im betting the answer is no as someone else is bound to have tried.

Ok it is possible to make them show up. Just select the "permit view" option in the config. I did it through CM and it works ok. Does give a warning though of no thumbnail available.

Disabled to stop being used in user created routes as SpeedTree Groups, presumably in large numbers? are bad for performance, see post by WindWalkr back when 2010 was released, the groups were only used to replace old tree groups used in the builtin routes as a one off.

Thanks. I know they are resource hungry and lots of folk dont like them. But at least now I know why they have not made them openly available.
