Sort of a noob question.

Many years ago I bought Trainz. I think it was the 2004 version. Now skip a number of years. I bought a copy of "the other one". It's ok but I'm not keen on it, specially the 2013 version.

So, lets have a look at the latest version of Trainz. Hmm... the 2012 version looks like the beast to buy. What can I get to go with it? And that's my problem. I'm trying to find a definitive list of what's available to buy or download and I've failed. I know bout the "Download Station" but I don't want to buy a copy or a ticket until I can see what additional content is available. I've had a hunt round the net and most of what I found is of no interest to me. I'm English and that's where my interest lies...the UK.

So, definitive list? Canonical list? Something of some sort that's a list of DLC, whether freeware or payware.

Pretty please?

Which of the Big Four are you interested in?

If it's Southern Railway, then jayholland has a lot of SR locos available.

If it's GWR then Skipper1945 has a lot of GWR locomotives available.

If it's LNER, then Paul Hobbs is your go-to guy. There's also a bit on the DLS but it will require a lot of repairing if you get TS12. TS2010 is better in this regard, having Compatibility Mode.

If it's LMS, like me, then you're out of luck. There's not much short of the Settle & carlisle add-on, a Princess Royal, a 2P 4-4-0 and a few outdated items. which is why I'm slowly making my own LMS rolling stock. :)

I'd personally go for TS2010. It has Compatibility Mode for older content, more routes and other content built-in, and runs a lot better than TS12 on my computer. All you're missing out on is the NKP Berkshire pack (which neither you or I want anyway) and any future DLC packs from N3V Games and a few more recently released and built in TS12 routes.

Thanks for the tip about 2010 rather than 2012. Sounds like a good move.

You mentioned the big four but not the amalgamated form. :D British Rail is more my style. That and the Underground.

The whole point though was my search for a list. As in one list of what content is available and from where, how much it is, etc, etc, etc.

Most creators make their locos in Big 4 and BR liveries, hence why I only spoke about the Big Four. :)

There's some LU stuff on the DLS. 1960's and 1990's stock.

Obo's Trainz Locomotive Catalogue is what you want. It's certainly missing a few things (For one, I don't think it mentions payware items) but it's the only list out there and is pretty comprehensive. :)

Thanks Kieran. That was interesting to read. I'm surprised there's not much EMU stuff. 4CIG/VEP etc.

Is there no list of routes available?

Hi Trunkles,

Obo's trainz catalogue is good but even a quick browse just now tells me that it's not comprehensive. For example, none of Skipper1945's stuff is listed in there, and most people would say his models are possibly the best UK freeware available.
Just go onto the DLS and try a few different search terms, see what comes up!

In terms of routes, check out this thread. Some legend has gone to the trouble of typing out every British route he knows of! Obviously some are aimed at different eras to others, but it's quite useful. http://forums.auran.com/trainz/showthread.php?3301-UK-Layouts

Hope that helps!
