small questions - how did the AAAAA routes on the dls started + etc

i have a question on how the aaaaaa routes on the dls started and how trainz android became what it is now?

The vast majority of them are build 3.6 (TS12) and have screenshots that show an unusual UI - not from TS12. I suspect they are all saved Android routes and/or sessions that were under development by various users. Back then the DLS was, I believe, the only place where they could be saved. This was the source of many complaints.

As to the current Android version (Trainz 3), there was a very long time gap between the earlier (TS12-like) version and the release of Trainz 3. I do know that Trainz 3 was in development during that time as I was asked if they could use one of my routes in the "new" version several years ago - around the time that T:ANE was released if my memory serves me correctly (a rarity these days!).

The Android app that is as Peter said basically TS12 without CM is an updated version of the original app that was more like TRS2004. The TS12 version is higher resolution than the original and as such very difficult to play with your finger. The Get New Content menu is renamed Extra Content and allows a limited subset of routes and sessions to be downloaded into the game and locally saved routes and sessions can be uploaded from the same menu. Yes, Android devices can save routes and sessions locally. It may be the Apple version of the old Trainz app that can not save locally but I don't use Apple products so I don't know for sure. TS3 does not include surveyor so you can only drive trains.

The naming scheme is just childish ego I think. If you name your route AAAAA or such then it is sorted to the top of an alphabetically sorted list as is the default in CM. In general, the same childish behavior that produces graffiti and tagging on public spaces.

I'll admit that I made a childish route before called "train crash". The description says "Crash this train!" and I made this "route" during my early days as a Mobile Trainz user. However, I made it under a different username.

lol DLS graffiti :hehe:

Well since this thread got derailed, I will provide a little context.

Trainz driver was available on iPod on iPhone and android phones for a while in the early 2010's when they launched they didn't have any downloadable content. However with the release of Trainz Simulator and Trainz Simulator THD the following year on iPad and on Android Tablets. Users were able to create route and upload them. However it shared the same server as the regular download station. The screenshot from the user above is from Trainz Simulator (THD) which has a very TS12 esque UI that worked well with larger screens.

Now Trainz driver and Trainz simulator (THD) are just mobile ports of TS12 that have older 2004/06 content loaded in place of the default TS12 stuff. This was to make the game more playable on the weak devices at the time. A lot of the crap on the DLS is due to kids not knowing what they were doing, making routes on their iPads and trying to share it with friends, not realizing that its uploaded publicly even if they just want to send a joke route to just one other person.

Just some context to get this thread back on track.
