Slow forums

Mine sped up day before yesterday but yesterday and today the forum and the DLS are running slower than molasses in Alaska in December again. It takes 30 sec or more to load a page and sometimes times out before loading.

Things really sped up a couple of days ago, but now, it's slow as molasses in winter. I don't have this problem with other sites that I visit. It's very frustrating to just sit and wait a couple of minutes for a page to load.
Could not pick which post to quote so I put in both :hehe: :p :hehe:

My story is the same as others, yesterday and today are slow. A couple of days ago it was quite fast.

Yesterday though it was far worse, at times I would lose the connection for the forum main page and threads as well. I needed to refresh the screen to get it working again. I actually wondered if this problem is due to the amount of people downloading SP1 and those on the forum.

Thought of posting here in case Auran replies here.

I must agree with Craig , sometimes the Forum is so slow that I simply Log-off , 2-3 hours later works like a dream . I can only assume it is traffic , and then maybe not :'( .

Must say that since my previous post here, the forum has speed up and is how it was a few days ago.

So I am not sure if it is the number of people downloading SP1, then the number of people on the forum (which is about the same number) or what.

I'm glad some of you are having success. It's so slow at my end that I have to click the refresh button several times for a page to load. It's been that way for days. As far as over-use is concerned, there are seldom more than 20-25 on the forum at any given time. In the old days, it used to be 100-150.
I'm wondering if it has anything to do with the TRS2009 forum browser. maybe it's putting a load on the server even though people aren't posting.

@Johnk
I agree with you, yesterday was a nightmare and I gave up, today is great, much quicker.
Sometimes there are very few people logged on and the server takes ages to respond.
I only noticed this since the introduction of the new look webpage

Just thought I would post again and also others may like to continue posting so that maybe we have a better idea of why it is slow. Then some of us can sit back happy that it is not our computers or our ISP.

Today the forum is a little slow, but not as slow as it was when I first posted, and its not as fast when things speed up. At the moment there are 141 people on the forums and there may be a number of people downloading SP1 but we will not know about that.

I, and hopefully others, will continue to post for the next few days about our speed. This may also save someone from pulling out their hair at Auran trying to find an answer :hehe:

Edit: it took a little longer for this post to install :hehe:

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all. I hope you and your family (and friends) have a great, safe and enjoyable Christmas/New Year break.

I notice that a large percentage of viewers are in the screenshots section. These along with signatures really eat up bandwidth so I think both could have a lot to do with the problem.

I think we need to stop making excuses for Auran. Why doesn't somebody from Auran comment on this problem instead of hiding under there desk's. We've had screenshots here for ages without any slowdown. This reminds me of what happened in the latter part of 2005 when the forum crashed and we lost everything due to a virus. I hope thats not happening again.

Screenshots (and sig) bandwidth does not affect the access speed of the Auran server, images are downloaded from 3rd party hosting sites...

My recent experience, forum server speed is worse than its best, but much better than at its worst!

Andy;)

The forums speed is quite good for me even with 150 people here :hehe: .
