I dont have vry high hopes to do much good, but I got SU Pro. Maybe ill be able to make some buldings. Im probably gonna try to learn gmax too, but until then. Btw, iexport in 3ds format to put SU files in Gmax, right?
you HAVE to have gmax in order to add things you build in sketchup into trainz
and take lots of time to learn how sketchup reacts with different lines, and surfaces
I have spent a long time learning how sketchup builds models compared to other 3D programs
just take your time, and dont think, just because its easy and fast to build models, if you take your time, you get stuff like this
this ship is 99.9% built in sketchup
and believe it or not, only around 24k Polys at this time, with an interior and everything. still a few things to do, but its a monstar ship, and my best model yet. I had some help from friends on the hull and guns, but this goes to show how possiable it is to make good models
I have found SketchUp a great tool for buildings. Actual coaches I do in Gmax, but SketchUp is very handy for buildings. One feature is the ease of creating windows, in which polygon deletion in the window is automatic. In Gmax, you must extrude, delete, do the hokey-pokey and hope you did everything right...there are probably easier ways in Gmax but I haven't found them yet
i do have gmax, and yes, im sure it willbe useful for buildings more than anything. I was making sure that i saved it as 3ds to get it into gmax, though i understand i wasnt clear enough
