Size of Signature Banners

Hi Guys,

We are getting a number of complaints concerning Signature Banners being too large in either Height/Width or in image filesize.

The following is an extract from the Code of Conduct that defines the limits:
  1. Signature banners may not cover an area greater than 800 pixels in width, 100 pixels in height and may not have a total file size greater than 30kb.

Edit: It needs to meet both size and pixel limits.

Please check your banners, and where outside the limits, modify accordingly.

Why doesn't the forums automatically filter it, forbid it, as I have seen much larger than mine get on here? And really, I don't see it as such a big deal, but I guess it must eat into storage or bandwidth, am I right?

No rule says he has to, plus the fact he is a MOD suggest he knows what he is doing
Can I suggest you check the kB size of your banner before you bring yourself to the attention of a mod posting about the banner rules .
You do know you are supposed to start off a screenshot thread with a screenshot, right?

Well there are many ways to do this - the easiest is using IE to view the page and its as simple as having the mouse pointer over the image and right click and chose properties.

Plus there are also many web designer tools and browser plug ins that will also perform this tasks.

Most image software packages will have a function to give you the image data or information of the size of the image your working with.

Even a well trained eye can easily pick a over size web banner after a while.

Its not rocket science at all.

How do we go about determining the size of our banners?

Now for example on this page
flyboy559's Banner is 728 X 90 pixels and 28768 bytes which is ok
but
BlakeDooley's Banner is 800 X 100 pixels and 211997 bytes ---- 30kb is 30720b (bytes) so it way over the allowed size.

Or you could just wait till either one of the wanna be mod's or a real mod jumps on you for this, Usually it will be one of the wanna be mods as they are the quickest and most upset by this harshest of crimes.
Mick.

It's really a matter of choice. Do you want to follow the guidelines or flout them? Believe it or not, some peeps here don't have high speed internet because it's not available to them.

Cheers

Sorry mate but have to ask - whats your thinking on not abiding to the COC even if you feel its a bit trivial

Doesn't really matter what i think Bearcat. But once we start enforcing this rule we could then start in on the impersonating a mod rule too.

Its quite a faff. If they were 800x800 it'd be a nuisance but the 801x100 pixels sigs I just do not care enough about. I'm with Mick on this one, the signature-cops are overdoing it

By the use of the word "we" in your statement I assume that congratulation words are in order due to your new appointment or is it as it could also be read as a confession. But pleased to read that you will enforce each part of the COC with equably importance.
