Signature resolution (question for Euphod)

Trainz PC, iPad and Mac
Hi Ed (Euphod),
I have been playing with designing a Signature for the Trainz Forum and haven’t been pleased with the clarity, e.g. http://forums.auran.com/trainz/showthread.php?t=68128&page=22
Looking at your thread I notice that many have been able to present much better resolution.

I have limited myself to 800 X 100 pixels with a file size of 30kb, the suggested maximum for Trainz Forum. If I try for larger file sizes that might have better resolution Trainz seems to reject them.

Any suggestions?

Software

I use Canvas for the most part but have and have tried Irfanview.

No, I have not optimized for the web. Not sure how one does that in Canvas. I will try playing with Irfanview as it seems to have that feature.

Save to Web in IrfanView

Hi Ed,
Used IrfanView: File>Save to Web, Width 800 (Height came out at 102) Size of output file 30kb. It may have improved resolution marginally. Starting file was a 15.6 MB Tiff file.

Resolution

Tried using a photo of the west portal to the Macdonald Tunnel in Rogers Pass I took back in 2007. The resolution is much better than that of the shot taken with FRAPS from MBC in Trainz 2010. Along with Euphod's suggestion to optimize for the Web, the result is much more satisaftory.

Thanks Euphod.

You're welcome. I use Paintshop Pro 8 for all my work. It has a nice optimizer that allows you to fine tune the image for the internet.;)
