Signal Weirdness

I placed some signals on my layout and they would not work right. They would either change to red (which was the incorrect signal) or cycle throught red yellow green continiously. Any suggestions?

Well it would help to have more details - mouse over signals (it works in sruveyor if you place a train in front of it) and it will tell you what the status is. Cycling colors stands for track ahead is unsignalled.

as ombers explanation except place a light engine in front of your signals. if it's cycling your missing a signal ahead of that particular signal. if your signal stays on red you have either, a point set across its path, another consist, broken track or an unsignalled siding ahead of that signal. A signal will not go green unless there is a consist within that block.
hope this helps.

If you get the cycling colours in Surveyor, when you go into driver, the signal affected will always stay red unless you have a junction ahead AND set the route for another route that does not cause this situation in surveyor.
