Sick And Tired

I think Auran should go check all content for all trainz versions and make these content creators make their content compatible for all trainz versions and make the content creators that create locos use the actual engine sounds, horns, enignespec, and interior that the locos use in real life for their trains or they get deleted and give all assets that they require or they get deleted because I have a lot of stuff that requires some dependencies but are nowhere to be found.

for many reasons, this will not happen. as this is international forums, they have to respect the users free rights to create what they wish and upload it where ever they choose. auran/ N3V i guess it is now, can enforce no such policy like this, so for those 2 reasons this chaotic mess will remain. how ever, im sure some where in the config file it shows where to get the dependencies or those google ^^^^ as every browser ive used has a search bar/url bar up at the top

Not just that, but you can often replace an asset's dependency with one you prefer, such as a loco's horn you feel doesn't sound right with one that does.

But if you're concerned about "making" people create accurate assets then you should lead by example. Who knows, maybe you'll be the next Jointedrail?

I predict most creators would simply stop creating, and many pieces of content would be deleted from the DLS. You think it's wise to try to force creators to do anything? See ya!

When you point a finger, four look back at ya!

Kris, you have to understand it's not the creators that made their assets, so called incompatible, with the newer versions. Put the blame where it belongs dude!

First let me say that in my opinion, there are many talented content creators in the Trainz Community. It would seem they would create content in their version of Trainz, and maybe they would try to create for other versions after. That is easier said than done. These creators are just doing it for the fun while others do it for money, but either way, there's a lot of good content our there created by every day Trainzers.

I'm sure the Trainz builders would love to be able to push a button and make everything perfect, but because of all the variables, this would not be easy.

Cheers

AJ

Um - yes it is - at least 95% of faulty assets were always wrong. Only a handful were 100% correct to the CCG at the time, and now don't work.

I think it would be well worthwhile Auran having a means to flag any item on the DLS that does not have all of its dependencies on the DLS. Some way for users to add links to the dependencies would be an added bonus. Anything else is going to drive more creators away from the DLS altogether.

As for loco's using the wrong sounds and interiors, I look forward to the day when your first perfect loco reaches the DLS - until then, perhaps it would be wise to adjust your attitude slightly. Most creators work to the best of their abilities, and for their own enjoyment - they don't appreciate being told that if their work is not perfect, it should be deleted from the DLS. I don't suppose you'd appreciate someone making derogatory comments about the routes you have uploaded, would you?

It's also worth noting that the vast majority of faulty content is being fixed, so you are already getting your wish on that one...

I meant for those that did before. I know there are many items out there that never were done correctly. When I started, I models my trucks to be compatible with those already available, soon I had to break away from that and made many changes to get things like attachment points (mainly changed to connect at the fifth wheel). Again I ask just where is the blame to be when the standards and guidelines have been so vague. Even coupler heights vary in many assets.

Not really, only three look back - the other points whichever way feels more comfortable ;) :p

Just having a random browse around the forums as it's been a few years since I was here. Thought I'd throw my oar in here and make a comment - I was with Trainz from pretty much day 1, and started creating content for it from day 7 (or thereabouts).

The compatibility issue arose because at the start, there really weren't many guidelines to follow - Trainz being in its infancy and all, we didn't really know what Trainz needed in terms of functionality until we actually got into creating - once we were knee deep in creating we suddenly thought "Ah... I really wish Trainz would do this... that... or the other".

As memory serves, there were teething problems with newer versions of Trainz as new features were implemented, with bugs, etc. so while the technicalities were dealt with and proper creation guidelines were drawn up, some creators just up and left the community or moved on to other things... life, I guess, happened for many. So alot of content never got finished - some of my own included.

One thing you have to realise, as with any form of creative work, is that what you're viewing is only the creator's interpretation (and quite possibly the level of skill they had with the tools to hand lol) - such an interpretation may or may not conform exactly to what the real thing looks like. It may also be, that what you're viewing may have only been the start of what could have been an explosion of creativity that was nipped in the bud by someone who clearly didn't think about the effort that went into the item they're complaining about.

I myself remember my very first item I created for Trainz... a signal of all things... got it upside down at first (lights wrong way around) and it was just a black box on a black cylinder lol... hardly what I'd call state-of-the-art. However, as crap as it was, Auran put it up on the download station, and many people politely said it was a great first effort, etc and downloaded it... even showed me screenshots of my work on their routes (before promptly deleting the hideous thing and throwing it into digital oblivion lol). But it was those very things, the supportive members of this community inclusive of the team at Auran, that spurred me on to create more... and more and more!

So, if you're not happy with the content someone put time and effort into... I challenge you to make a better one. If you lack the ability, foresight or creativity to do so, then I would highly recommend you start being more supportive of those that do... or find another software application that meets your more demanding requirements.

All the best.

Steve :)

I wouldn't blame the content creators, there content is superb, and they are very talented at creating the items, I tried to use blender and my hair went on fire, and steam came out my ears, and I said to myself, what am I supposed to do with a stupid box...

Now with regards to Auran, now known as N3V, they decided they wanted Trainz to look and feel more realistic, plus giving better frame rates, they introduced Native Mode, which in my opinion was a smart move, but unfortunatly in doing this, has now caused problems for older content on the DLS, either not showing up, or showing up in red claiming errors...

From what I can understand is, our talented content creators are working alongside N3V throughout the DLS fixing content, so that it can work in Trainz 2010 Native Mode and beyond, Native Mode is the way to go for now, maybe in the future, a new graphics engine will be placed in Trainz to give even faster running with better frame rates, and less errors with Trainz content, but this is for the future and up to the folks at N3V.

Hope this helps

Hi Kris,

How would N3VRF41lers do that? ;) By sending detective inspectors to our third party sides to confiscate our creations?

I guess you mean the DLS and that's another story... iterated, wasted and already exhausted.

I must admit that I've already recovered from the disappointment and anger the NV3RF policies on the DLS incubated inside me. I must confess that they -the policies- don't affect us -third party creators- at all. They -N3VRF41l- do what they think it's better for their business, I (we) do what I (we) regard better for my (our) enjoyment. That's a fair deal. ;) And everybody's happy. :'(:'(:'(:hehe: I could live without Trainz version 999.99, without the official DLS, but it's there and I'm very glad about it. Of course, I could also live without Trainz. After all, we've been lovers just for over 8 years now, :udrool: and sometimes love can't endure time.

Please, let's not be such one-way guys. ;) Let's use Trainz our own way.

BTW, most major third party sites make and test their assets for working fine on most of the Trainz versions, including aboriginal, compatible or native modes.

Maybe the problem comes from just a few non-communal creators who sent their assets -which are worthy of appraisal too- to the DLS without extensive testing; but this fact has happened to every of us over here some time, even to very well-known and applauded creators -don't be afraid, I'm not telling names but some of them are really omnipresent and "omniselling" of late-. :D I'm not the one who's throwing the first stone at all, neither the last one. I'm very bad at throwing stones.

you have to make sure that it will run in your version of trainz.. there a lot of stuff that was made in 06, 09 Or 10 was not even thought about,,,
that will not work in 10, it depend on teh config files, but i fyou know what your doing you can make them work,,,

Hi all:wave:

I think that Kris94 is rather silly and bombastic with his ideas. What’s he going to do come round with the heavy mob and say “you will do as I tell say, or else”?

What would you think if I was to say that I thought that Toyota; should make all of their spare parts fit my Ford? Sounds daft, does it not?

Well your idea is also daft for TRS2004 and TRS2010 are two very different programs and what will work in one; may not do so in the other and this is just two versions of Trainz.

The other point is that when we give you stuff for free; we do not expect you to act like some draconian and be disrespectful.

If you do not like what we create then may I respectfully suggest that you have a go yourself Kris94 and show us all how to do it. Or maybe you already have and if so; then I apologise without reservations.

Hi Kris94,

Just checked on DLS for all version of Trainz; you have created 4 routes and not one asset. Get G-Max or Blender and have a go. Then when you know what your talking about come back and say sorry.:p

wow...let's see ..iv'e owned ts2010ee for less than a week ..i read the manual as it is ..watched and read the tutorials on line ....read the fourms ...installed updated and patched ..all on it's own ...before i added anything /freeware or payware i checked for compatibility installed and updated older content with no errors....i have made 8 payware buys from 2 differant groups....all installed without problems..maybe becuse i read the information about the packs i wanted to get..as a matter of fact...one group actually GAVe me a free coupon for a engine...sweet...as far as i can see it ...i never learned anything running my mouth. great job modders skinners creators and modelers.:Y:

Hi guy,

Pleased to know that and I'm glad you are glad, and if everybody is glad over here, life will be finer... ;) And if life is finer, we'll live longer and will use our lifetime FCT's longer and oftener too... making a better usage of our investment. What a wonderful world this can be! :D

Quite a very positive and gladdening post for both trainzers and sellers! ;)

Keep enjoying your new digital friend. :D

I was very active with 2004 and 2006, beta tested TC3 (but never really was that much into it) bought 2009 but it was really a crapshoot as to whether or not it would even run without a database repair so I never really used it much. I had a couple of really nice locomotives from 2006 and I had never bought a single piece of payware.

When I bought 2010, of course I couldn't find my locomotives (even though I backed them up somewhere) and when I finally did find them, of course they didn't work right without a lot of modification. It was then I decided to buy a couple of locomotives from JointedRail.

I was astonished at the level of detail, I then saw other payware and made some purchases each time just marveling at the level of detail. I bought TransDem and figured out how to use it (with many thanks to Roland for his patience) and I can concur with the above that 2010 without a doubt in native mode using newer assets is by far the most enjoyable version of Trainz (for me anyway) that has been produced.

There can be and will be those on both sides of the fence when it comes to payware. There'll be those who are against it in principle, there'll be those who claim they can't afford it, and there will be those (like me) who believe we get what we pay for.

For all those strongly opposed to payware, there's a simple solution. Create assets as good, and put them on the DLS. If you can't (or as I suspect you won't after investing the massive amount of time to create a highly detailed locomotive for example) you'll then realize why there's the DLS, and why there's payware.

I'm having more fun with 2010 and my growing collection of payware in combination with TransDem than I ever did with 2004 or 2006. I'm doing things such as modifying assets and learning how things are done by looking at the payware and am more interested in how things are done than I ever was in 2004 and 2006 strictly relying on the DLS.

Now I'm not saying the DLS is dead or has outlived its usefulness. I still have a first-class ticket and will until I get completely over this hobby, but it's refreshing to see someone actually post, and actually be a new user who has picked up on the fact rather quickly that having quality toys really does make for an enjoyable hobby.

OK, everyone is on your case for being angry and unrealistic, but heck, after spending 6 months of doing nothing but correcting errors in old content and seeing some of the lazy, careless and plain stupid ways that various assets were made, I can at least understand and sympathise with you. Asset creation was always a complex undertaking and bound to result in lots of errors. This much was foreseeable right from the start. Why Auran didn't have tight error checking from the beginning is the real question. We shouldn't be too critical of people new to this hobby for being overwhelmed, frustrated and angry at the mess that Auran allowed to develop through their own lack of rigour.

I have to agree with mrscsi i built competion grade scale 1/35 plastic german armour for many years....DETAIL is everything crisp clear shadow lines weathering in it self is hard to get correct .i'm not a rich man by any means but i think that paying out 10 -20 bucks for a single or multi pack is well worth it . my 6 yr old liked the special of the week @jointed rail the rock island this week .so he dragged out his piggy bank and had enough....he got the engine and got to keep his pennys ,he's waiting to see what the next one is ...so yeah i'll support payware with out blinking it's master quality work ....reading through some posts or more like rants ...some folks want everything for nothing ...i jokingly said to my self i'm suprised some guys havn't tried to trade in some older payware primemovers to jointedrail or rr mods saying they had lots of hours .
