Show your models!

Thanks, I'm glad you like the models!
Actually the track is bent, I was five when I got it, years of irresponsible abuse on the track before I learned to take care of it. :hehe: That's the nice thing about Bachman EZ track, it's tough. It's a pain in the neck to set up but it's tough.
When I get the cash I'm replacing all my old track pieces.

As for the models, the GP9u is a Walthers Trainline model I picked up at a train show, the SD70I is an Athearn model (lovely detail on the whole thing), the two others are IntermountainRwy SD40-2W's(more lovely details). I also have an Athearn CF7 that didn't get photographed, and about four Norfolk Southern locomotives.

I'm trying to find a locale where I can model all four of my favorite eastern railroads in one layout.(CP, CN, HC, and NS.)
I was also thinking about setting it in the 1980's/early 2000's so I can use those hot looking Bombardier LRC trains. :3

I have a lot of track like that too. When you're young, you don't realize what you're doing to the track and that. Now only if you can go back in time...

Those are definitely good finds at the train shows. I picked up some N-scale stuff a quite a number of years ago at 1985 NMRA show when it was in Boston. I have some Atlas (Kato) Alco RS-3s which I paid about $35 each back then. Sadly, one of them got knocked on to the floor and became a pile of plastic bits. The next time I purchased any models was in 2000. The similar RS-3 then went for over $100 each, and that was DCC ready. What difference in the model quality, though. It's amazing what can be done in injection molding today.

Your eastern route there could easily run in and around Detroit, Buffalo, or other places in Upper State New York.

Currently working on my "New" N Scale layout. A guy came into the museum a few weeks ago and said his dad had a layout and, because of health issues, was no longer able to work on it. Its a 7 foot by 3 foot layout on a door. He didnt want to just throw it out, but rather see it go to a good home and be finished. He offered it to me, and said that he give it to me seeing as it would take some work to get it out of the basement.

The track is all code 80 snap track on old ans dirt cork bed. My plan is to replace all of the 80 with code 55, change up some of the industry tracks, add a small branch line, and rewire the whole thing.

So far I have it wired up and running in DCC. I Have 6 feet of main line replaced to code 55, and a 3 foot long new siding added.

But here's one of my "artsy" shots:

JIb228, I think that shot should be called, "Peekaboo! DT&I Diesel style!" :hehe:

seriously though, that's a pretty cool shot there!

I have a feeling there will be many posts on this thread after Christmas.....can't wait to see some more awesome models. :)

well, then allow me to start!

my first "real" N-scale local freight in years; yes I know it's just on some old Code-80 flextrack on my countertop. that third car back is one of my new freight cars; an intermountain ATSF "Grand Canyon" reefer; sorry, but I don't have a shot if it since Imageshack is being finicky today.

close-up of my new Bluford shops USRA 70 ton hopper, decked out in Rock Island livery (matches the mill on the head-end rather nicely if I do say so myself :D )

close up of my new cabin car; I try to stick to midwestern rolling stock, I really do, but when I saw this paint scheme, I couldn't let it go. I just HAD to have it.

All of this stuff is looking really good. I'll try to post some pictures of what I got in the last 2-ish years tomorrow. For Christmas, I only got 3 train cars, but they are all for my Blue Goose set that I'm trying to make! Now I have 2 RPO's (eh, get what you can),a baggage car, a standard coach, and a sleeper for the set. Also, a couple weeks ago I picked up a Proto 2000 NYC E8 in cigar band livery. Looks great and runs like a dream!

Well, never expect me to be on time with what I say. I say an hour, expect it in a day, I say tomorrow, expect it next week. Ahh, procrastination. Anyways, here are the pictures of the things I got for Christmas.

New York Central Cigar Band E8. Looks great, and all of the doors open on it as well! Also, I got the grain cars on the right at the train show that I got the E8.

Blue Goose trainset cars I got. All are very underweight, which is normal for the Riverossi cars.

Picture of my Blue Goose engine I got the previous year for Christmas. Also, there is a Lamborghini Countach on the rails next to it. Apparently it was in my stocking and I didn't even notice it!

All of my modeling is in HO. Going to a train show and some hobby shops today. Hope I get lucky and find more Blue Goose cars!

^ Oooo, sexy. Are those the Athearn ones or MTH ACe?

jmeining, very true about the Riverossi cars. I've got several trainsets of them that need to be reweighed. They also need some new way of mounting Kadees on them.

No trains for Christmas this year, just a rock, a pair of jeans, and an Apple. But here's a picture of a P42.

good luck with your Blue Goose hunt! It seems like every time I go to a train show with a specific goal in mind (specific as in what I want to find/buy there) I end up buying everything other than what I set out to get! At least it got me a Kato GS-4 and one of their scrumptuos 2-8-2s...

and don't worry about being late on your posting; I'm the same way. my TS2010 "to-do" list still has stuff on it from the day I first installed it! :hehe::o

Both are Athearn, MTH just doesn't compete with the details and sound quality offered by Athearn and Soundtraxx.

What we do for the Rivarossi cars is take off the original hornhooks, and then temporarily put on Kadees with the same shank size. Still not a good fix, so what we eventually do/need to do is drill and tap a place for a screw, then mount a coupler box on the car,. After that, it's only a matter of putting a long shank Kadee in the box and getting it all at the correct height. Still, time consuming process. My eventual goal is to fully outfit the entire Blue Goose trainset with interiors and battery-operated lights. All in all I'll probably have about $500 into the whole trainset, but this will be completed in many many years.

Heh, me too. My main goal was to get Blue Goose cars, but I didn't find a single one. So, I ended up coming home with a reefer, two boxcars, and two NYC cabeese. Not a bad day.

Do you have any issues with the cars on 22" or 18" curves with the couplers mounted that way? I guess the better way to ask it would be what's the minimum radius you can get out of them? It's been awhile since I ran my Riverossi coaches and don't remember what the overhang was on curves.

I'm not quite sure. I'll need to ask my dad about that, as I haven't even done a single conversion yet.

EDIT: Okay, asked him and he said that it should still work on the 18" curves, and also you will probably need to file off some of the plastic on top of the truck so that the coupler will be at the correct height.

Dragon, Im a big time operator, and a some what N scalier my self. Read a book about a year ago on the basics, and advanced model railroad operation. Says in the book, "The most basic form of operation one can do is to lay out an oval and and a single siding. Then set out and pick up cars at random. Adding more sidings and more cars are the first steps into more advanced operations of the railroad."

Now why do I quote your photo and bring this up? Well to me it looks like you might be renovating the N scale layout. And to me, and what I tell people who might not other wise be able to build the big layouts, is N scale is the right way to go. Yes I love my HO and my 2 Rail O. But I cant fit any of that in where I live. So my plan is this, build the small N scale layout to improve my skills as a modeller, while still slowly collecting my HO stuff. So when I have the space and the money for my dream HO layout, I'll just have to buy the track. And, not to tell you or any one else what to do, but I think my method is one to be considered when getting started or continuing or restarting any model railroad.

But at any rate Dragon, if you continue with the apartment improvements on you N scale I wish you the best of luck. I need to work on mine as well. (I found a bad wire some place causing a 1 volt power drop causing my trains to slow on part of the main.)

And with that said, let me show you my newest(ish) addition to my collocation.

My MTH Pere Marquette 1225 in HO on a club modular layout. At one point she was pulling 25 haven covered hoppers with out problems. (Until one hopper derailed, broke it coupler, and damaged 2 others.) Now I need to get some of my own cars for her.
