I've seen some really good stuff done on older models lately. Resize the maps to add more detail, use shading, good weathering techniques, and even the oldest models can look good!

Agreed, great job Felix!

Hey guys, I'm sure someone has asked this already, but @felix_g: Is there a way to get those amazing ALCo models for personal reskinning? I'm trying to make an Industrial Shortline composed entirely of old ALCos to use on my personal route. I'm using n8phu's models right now, and while they work pretty well, I'd love to have ones with class lights and beacons. Also, I need to learn how to do good weathering. Thanks,

DJ

DJ, I assume you are talking about the RS-3/RSD-5's (and not the C425's which are already released)?
I'll release them somewhat soon... then you may use my setup and transfer your skins from the n8phu models.
Still working on the textures at the moment... :)

@Timothetoolman: very nice scheme!

It is still the same model I released, Felix_g created add on meshes for the class lights, beacon, and the scripts for them (VERY NICE add ons by the way, I too look forward to them....). In addition, he is very talented when it comes to reskinning and weathering. :D

Edit: Also the smoke script and textures are pretty awesome.

Thanks n8phu for pointing that out... having spent the last couple of days on those I didn't realize that other people may not realize that it's the same model... :hehe:

Anyway, here's another one (with some additional shading added to the skins today):

As another pointed out, Some good graphics work and some awesome weathering can change an older Trainz 2004 model into something nice. Add in the meshes and scripts you have made, and you have a gem.
