Setting Track Directions in TS19

On a route, I'm trying to set it up so trains will take a specific track depending on the direction they are going. My goal is to stop engines from taking the wrong line when crossing a junction. I have been experimenting with direction markers, but I do not 100% know how they function. Any advice on how to achieve what I am after would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,,,,, Just put a Track direction marker on the track you do not want the train to use and make sure the pointed end of the marker is facing the the junction.

Some care is needed though with placing direction markers since they can prevent other AI operations you might want to happen from taking place. AI drivers absolutely live for the moment that they can make use of a crossover and switch tracks even when there is no logical reason for them to do so, - and even if it will snarl up other traffic on the line so sometimes only a direction marker will do to make them behave. In general I prefer to use trackmarks to layout the route a train should take through a junction and only use direction markers if all else fails.
