setting speed controls

Hi,

I have Trainz Railway Simulator 2004. I have successfully created tracks and circuits but cannot set the speed allowance on track sections. The default is 40 mph and I cannot change this. I can drive trains to exceed 40 mph but have no control over the setting - can anybody help please.

Thanks,

A hopeful enthusiast Alan:'(

Look in the trackside objects, you should find a variety of speed signs, simply put them on the track and it will change the max speed until there is another speed sign :)

Setting Speed Controls

Hi,

Thanks for your reply.

I have tried (and tried again) to place speed boards by the track but it has no effect on the speed limit set in the top right hand corner. I am using both the black boards with the white lettering and the white boards with the red lettering but to no avail. Is there some other associated control I have to use the make them effective? Am I using the correct speed boards?

Regards,

Alan

They should change the speed once you drive past them. Set out a long bit of track and put lots along it to test out which ones work.. There should be different varieties for different countries, especially on the download station.

Also try some of the built in routes and see if the speed changes on them :)

If you're still having trouble come back!

Setting speed controls

Hi,

PLEASE SEE ADDED COMMENT BELOW

Again many thanks for your reply but I am still unable to change the speed set from 40. In my mind the speed boards are (perhaps) cosmetic rather than control devices. Does the "Marker" or "Trigger" have anything to do with it?

I would love to be able to overcome this problem because to schedule a driver to perform tasks can only be achieved at 40mph which of course takes forever.

I will keep trying but no luck so far.

Regards,

Alan

PLEASE IGNORE ABOVE IT DOES WORK - I HAVE FOUND THAT IT IS CRITICAL WHERE YOU PLACE THE BOARDS AND I HAVE OBVIOUSLY BEEN CHOOSING THE WRONG POSITIONS. THANKS AGAIN FOR HELPING ME SORT THIS. I HOPE I CAN DO SOME GOOD FOR ANOTHER IN THE FUTURE. REGARDS ALAN

This is interesting....
I'm using KUID
60697:23000:1 , Configurable Invisible Speedboard and for the most part it works. However at some points (junctions) the AI trains slow to a speed of 36 km/h and that shows as the speed limit for that section. So I can sympathise with Alan above.

Any clues on how to get around this?

You may have a problem with signalling if trains are slowing down despite having speed signs. Trains will run at half speed where they are not happy with signalling and will stop completely if they are asked to enter an unsignalled area where there are other trains

I've been trying this out for months now and I'm ready to give up on Trainz completely!

Is there ANy way to find out what the AI train drivers are not happy about?
I've toyed and tinkered with signal distances, used different signals and in some cases NO signals and the issue remains the same.

Example: Track speed is 65km/h, using the ISS (Invisible Speed Signal V2) a junction has a straight speed of 65km/h, and a diverge speed of 40 km/h, yet when the train reaches the junction, the speed limit indication changes to 36 km/h (where'd that come from?) and the train continues at that speed regardless of the track speed posted.

:'(

What singalling to you have after the junction ? AI can be fussy and soetimes your signalling needs to be un-prototypical byu using more signals than in the 'real world' for AI to behave correctly. Also consider where you are telling your AI trains to go to after the junction....is their path clear or are there other trains about in the area that they are trying to get to, as this will cause AI to slow down

G'day there,

Sometimes these sort of problems are caused by not just the immediate signal you are looking at but by the next one along that you may or may not be able to see in the distance. Trainz looks at the immediate and very next signal only when building the path that the AI drivers use. And the speed used will be adjusted accordingly if one or both signals are set against the oncoming train!

Hope this helps,

Cheers
Russell.

That makes sense, but all the signals are at Proceed ALL the way down the line....

what does your message window say? it will give you an indication of the problem. Also make sure your speed signals are in the correct units (mph vs Kph) sounds dumb but I've done that a few times!

Also check out Chuck's site...it has lots of troubleshooting issues on it.

I've found that it helps to use a lot of signals, way more than would be used prototypically, and use an invisible signal when you don't want the signal to be visible:hehe: (sorry, that didn't come out right)
