Session file seems to have disconnected from route file

I have one route with one session related to it. Recently I have made alterations to a part of the route, mainly lowering an area and adding a tunnel. I do this by starting from the menu and choosing Edit Route.

I then exited the Surveyor and selected View Sessions -> Edit Session

It transpired that the session had some of the changes but not all: it seems that the lowered ground and the tunnel were OK but the track was at its original height, even though I had carefully lowered the relevant nodes.:(

I exited from the session and went back to Edit Route. All of the route was fine.

I checked the two config files: the session file refers to the correct map-kuid, and I can't see anything else wrong.

(One thing that always bothers me is that when I open the Edit Route option and then Exit Survey or Exit Game without doing anything at all to the route the dialogue box warns me that "The currently open session has been modified" even though I have not touched anything and I had only chosen Edit Route, not Edit Session. I click on "Don't save" in case I am otherwise overwriting a good file with a bad file. And that's happened to me before. :'()

I hope the above is clear enough to be understood and that some kind soul can tell me where I'm going wrong. I could recreate the session details, but I would have a lot of consists and AI routes to write out (a pity there's no suitable documentation that can be printed) so I'm hoping there is a neater solution.

If you only open route for edit a new default session is created. A route must have a session in order to work. Anything that got put on the session layer will have been deleted when you chose not to save the session. Sessions can become detached from a route if you edit the route and then save. I always open the session for edit and change the layer to the route. Then when I save I know all the alterations will be there next time I open it.
