service packs

It`s the one from auran. If you read the sticky about sp1 assistance, go to the post by Ahsan and theres` a link to a thread that has links for service packs. That`s where there`s a link to sp1 for 38017 and three lines below one for 38599, as well as links to go from about 5 different builds to 40040. That`s why I was wondering about the different sp1 builds , thinking maybe one`s better than the other. So maybe the 38599 one is for another version not published by auran. Mine has both auran and n3v on the case but I ordered it directly from auran shortly after it became available on dvd, however it was shipped from the US somewhere. Right now I have the game installed with no service packs. Will the service packs install properly with my antivirus and firewall on? I`m not too big on downloading from the net with no security.

I've not been paying a lot of attention to SP's lately but this post caught my eye and I tought I'd check to see where I am in this tedious process. I have 2009 build 40088. I can not find any links that take me fron there to a higher build number. Any suggestions?

Dap - Trainz should give you the option of patching (Go into the Trainz Options box, then click Patch Trainz) - make sure you have DirectX 9 (August edition). If this is unavailable, there is a thread in the Auran Announcements forum titled 'SP3 Manual Patches available' - you will need to use the link with the first number matching your current build number.

rjw1975 - Are there any other logos on the box? If not, it may be worth trying the 37625 - 38017 patch. (http://download.ts2009.com/SP1/37625_to_38017.exe)

EDIT: Just been reading another few threads, it should work with the 38599 patch and then update to SP2/3 from there but make sure that you download the version with the first number matching yours.

The Patch Trainz button is blank and not active. How do I activate it?

As far as I know it activates on its own when there is an automatic update available. I think they come out with manual patches first.

So, in the last 3 hours I`ve re installed ts2009 4 times. Everytime I try to download a service pack I get a message from windows saying that trainzutil.exe has stopped working and I have to close the program. It does this when the patch is about half done. I tried the link you gave me twice and the link off the page I mentioned for 38017 as well as 38599 and the same thing happened everytime. The last time I just minimized the message to see if it would patch anyways but it stayed at about 99% progress for about 45 mins so I just closed the program. ??????
Unfortunately my computer is infected with vista.

Ah Vista... I've got Win7 so I have a similar problem - any program that modifies data in Program Files or somewhere similar needs to be run with Admin rights (right-click the file, then choose Run as administrator) - I had to do that with SP1 on mine - otherwise it fails.

Basically, that means any Trainz patches, programs etc on Windows Vista/7 should be run in Admin Mode (as said further up in this post)

From what little info I can find, that sounds like it might be an SP3 Beta build. I don't know if you can upgrade from that or if you'd need to reinstall.

So,I was reading some other threads and a question came up that made me think of my problem with ts2009. Could the problems I`m having with the service packs be caused by having both trs2006 and ts2009 on the same computer? Someone mentioned that they had the two installed on different drives.

I've got both installed on mine, and (apart from content issues - texture issues) mine seems to be OK.

(Found another issue with the patcher though - it runs better if all application files in the Bin folder are set to run as administrator in the properties box (Compatibility tab) in Windows Vista/7)

I just tried that and it made no difference. When I reinstalled ts2009 I got a message that said "unable to execute file c:\program files\auran\ts2009\trainz.exe ,create process failed; code 740, the requested operation requires elevation" I`m thinking there`s something wrong with my computer so I`m gonna get it checked out before I try again, I`ll just uninstall the game and try later, and if that doesn`t work I`m just gonna take the $50 loss and throw the game out and not buy any others when they first come out.

Just out of interest, did you also install the program as administrator? (Easiest way to do so is to go into (My) Computer, right-click the CD Drive, click Open, then right-click Setup.exe then select Run as Administrator.

I am sorry to hear though that your version of Trainz is still not working. I will still try and find solutions - it's not very often that installations fail.

Please try one more time. I have TRZ2006 installed on Drive "C" and just installed TRZ2009 (build 38411) on Drive "E" a 250GB Toshiba USB drive. I then patched to build 41844 with no problems. The only difference is my operating system is WIN XP. One thing you should do before re-installing 2009 is to create a new folder and call it "TRAINZ2009" or what ever suits you and install 2009 in that folder that you just created when the TRAINZ nstall menu option comes up. Otherwise, it defaults to the Program Files folder where 2006 resides and causing all sorts of registry issues. Also be sure to install as administrator.
Then do your patches beginning with SP1. It should automatically choose your "NEW TRAINZ FOLDER" to install the patches but watch it just to make sure. By the way, the patching process on my computer took over an hour for each patch, so be patient.

Good Luck, tomurban

Opps, almost forgot. The patcher will ask for Direct X9, so you need to get it if you haven't already.

ok, I`ll have to try that. I didn`t know about installing as administrator since my computer auto runs the disk when you put it in. The only thing I don`t get is the folder thing. Right now trs2006 is in it`s own folder within the auran folder and when I install ts2009 it puts it in it`s own folder in the auran folder. Is this ok or do I have to create a different one like you said?
I got direct x 9 a couple weeks ago.

Mine is in C:\Program Files (x86)\TrainzSimulator2009 (this is where the Just Trains version usually installs to) - it is usually OK to install in the Program Files folder unless you are running a 64-bit version of Windows then it should be installed in Program Files (x86).

It normally does not make a lot of difference where it is installed as long as it is installed and run as administrator and that it is in a different folder to earlier/later Trainz versions. (It can still be in the Auran folder though - I'm not aware of any registry issues that happen if two versions of Trainz are in the Auran folder as long as each has it's own subfolder)

Shane

ok, I do have the 64 bit one but whats the diff between those 2 program folders? My trs2006 is in Program Files and it works fine, but it also had sp1 already installed.
