Hi guys, can someone pse help.
I purchased the Blue Comet and downloaded it. I need to upgrade because it will not run with my Trainz2010 before I download some service pack or packs.
What exatly do I need to download please.

Hi jjanmarine3,
The first question is: what is your current build number? I can then advise exactly which patches you need.

This is especially true for TS2010, as there are several similar patches.

You can find your current build number by loading the Launcher screen, and noting the 5-digit build number from the bottom-right of the screen.

Shane

P.S. Euphod, I wanted to send you a PM, but you seem to have disabled it.

Correct me if I am wrong but I beleve you have to be at least serivce pack 2 in order for it work in trainz 2010.

Actually, SP3 (build 43434) or later is required for addon packs to work in TS2010, with one exception - the Aerotrain, which requires a fully patched version.

Shane

EDIT: This means that users of the Steam version of Trainz 2010 are unlikely to be able to use the addon DLC packs.

In light of recent developments on my tutorial website, see the following page:

http://shaneturner12.awardspace.co.uk/trainzdata/index.php?page=trainzpatchlinks

Select TS2010 when prompted, then select Patches to Service Pack 3+Hotfix.

You now need to know your current build number. This can be found at the bottom-right corner of the Launcher screen (5-digit number).

Click on the relevant Download link for your build - this will trigger a File Download box.

Hi Euphod and Shane and all the guys, I managed to get Blue Comet working with TS2010, it is cool ! My trainz build number is 49933 thanks Euphod.
Any other advice will be appreciated as well guys thank you very much so far.
Jannie.

That's good to see. Hopefully you enjoy your DLC content.

Shane

P.S. Just out of interest, do you find N3V's patches page complex or easy to use?

Hi Shayne,
I do enjoy Trainz in general and especially steam trains because I come from a background as fitter on steam and supervisor and training officer on diesel/electric locomtives in Greyville ,Wentworth and Franklin depots .

It was easy to use the patches page once I understood about the build number, there is so much going on there and one has to know what you are looking for first as a greenhorn.
Easy to ask when one gets stuck though , stacks of knowledge and wisdom around on the forum.

Hi Beattie , I have to ask you something after I noticed your user name and sorry if i am off the subject but when I was ana apprentice in Greyville steam depot in Durban ( South Africa ) I had a tutor by name of Bob Beattie, the world is small, was he perhaps family of yours or do you know of him .

Of the family members I know of the Beattie's I don't know anyone named Bob.

I too got the Blue Comet running well after I upgraded to build 49933. I got a lot of help when Shane sent me to his tutorials. The only item that doesn't work is the horn cord when I pull it in cab mode. It moves when I pull it but no sound. It might be that my sound system is pretty poor.

It's good to see that my tutorials are still helping people. As well as my site, I also have a few tutorials on my blog.

If the horn is not working it may be worth checking the asset listed as 'hornsound' in the config.txt file.

Hi Jim, The Blue Comet is special and the sound is so cool ! I am a steam fanatic and I love playing around in surveyor , swopping the modern loco's with all the available steam loco's , making up different trains to pull and setting up more industries , this takes up all the spare time and I am far behind when it comes to config and scratching in the files and stuff.:D
When one gets stuck it is nice to have guys like Shane and all the fundi's who can help with anything that goes wrong. Press H on the keyboard and see if the horn works then ?

Shane, I stumbled upon a config.txt file and under "smoke4" there is listed "attachment "a.whistle"". It's all a puzzle to me.

Running Blue Comet under DCC the horn responds when I press the horn button.
Running under the cab control the rope for the whistle moves when my cursor is pressed over it but no sound.

Under a new unrelated subject: With your web site and obvious experience and love for the program you should write a book explaining how to use and set up the program. It could be an easy way for you to make your second million. Put me down for one of the first signed copies.

Sounds like a possible for the future - only trouble is that my handwriting isn't much good.

I could try e-booking though - watch this space, as they say.

P.S. Have you seen my blog on the Blogs page? Name is 'Trainz Technical and Operational Tips and Tricks' - currently, at the time of writing this, has 9 entries.
